mackenfolife Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 I have a leaky power steering return line that has the built in cooler that runs along the subframe. My car is a 95 cuttlass supreme with the LQ1. My question is can I just replace that return line with a hose and clamp or should I go buy the hard line for 50 bucks:question: Quote
carkhz316 Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 My euro's return line was leaking through the crimps in the rubber section before the cooler part, and i just cut out the rubber section and replaced it with some power steering hose for a couple bucks, plus some hose clamps. that was about 6 months ago, and its holding just fine. Crazy K Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 I have done the above... but I flared the ends of the line so the hose would not slide off. Hey... Jeff 1990Lumina did this too... but had line burst issues. was that ever solved? Quote
mackenfolife Posted August 13, 2008 Author Report Posted August 13, 2008 Thats what I wanted to hear. I was a lil worried the pump may get too hot but its alright. I just staved $45. Thanks a bunch!! Quote
paulo57509 Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 I've done both. Replacing the entire return line is a PITA. It would be much easier to pull the engine than to try and snake the new line into place. Replacing the leaking portion with PS hose is easier, IF you can find quality PS hose that doesn't get rock hard after a year or so. I'm thinking of getting a couple of Earl's hard line adapters and making a -6 return hose out of Earl's PS hose and call it good once and for all. Quote
LuminaPower92 Posted September 7, 2008 Report Posted September 7, 2008 Put it this way, book time for each Power steering line on an LQ1 is 3 hours or so for each. Quote

Yes, I flared the ends and used AC Delco COLD CLIMATE P/S fluid, it's green shit but about the consistancy of water at -50 degrees lol. I also used fuel hose clamps instead of normal gear ones because the gear ones were cutting the hose. Quote
