146k on my 96 Cutlass. Oil every 6k. My uncle is a mechanic and told me that it is completely un-necessary to change the oil every 3k miles. Alternator, water pump, and fuel pump replaced.

You must not see the oil that drains out of many customers car than @ 3K miles!!! Eek!

Working @ Grease Monkey has made me a solid believer in preventative maintenace.

totaly agree with you Erik.... when i was in auto class in high school cars of staff would come in for small repairs and oil changes and stuff like that... the brown sludge that came out of some of those engines was discusting! Also my friend manages one of the local Jiffy Lube's and i always go to him when i have to get any fluid changed... i just bring a better oil filter... instead of using the fram ones...(cardboard end caps ???)

147,XXX on my 92 Lumina 3.1

143,XXX on my 95 Corsica 3100

3100 has a lot of lifter noise but doesn't burn or leak any oil

3.1 doesn't leak or burn any oil that i know of and runs like a champ

My 89' 2.8 has 261,789 KM .........but thats not the engine you wanted to know about......my buddy has a 95 Grand AM with a 3100 and it has 167 000 KM and he beats on it hard and it still runs strong after three years :)
