EviLette Posted August 1, 2008 Report Posted August 1, 2008 The front sway bar and trailing arms that I ordered from GMPP FINALLY arrived... today. I just got the car out of the shop again to finish up the original job yesterday... So here's my question. Anyone have a write-up or general description how to go about swapping out the trailing arms? I have the feeling this is not something I'll be able to do myself. TYiA Quote
per0781 Posted August 1, 2008 Report Posted August 1, 2008 i believe there are threads about swapping them on here i believe. Quote
AL Posted August 1, 2008 Report Posted August 1, 2008 its honestly just a couple bolts... at least it was on my 99, i dunno how much different they are on the 88-96's... wouldnt hurt to take your wheel off and check it out Quote
Andrew Posted August 1, 2008 Report Posted August 1, 2008 yeah if they arent rusted to hell, then it just takes some muscle to break the nuts loose. that is the hardest part. a long breaker bar + PB blaster + muscles are your friends. Quote
old442man Posted August 1, 2008 Report Posted August 1, 2008 It always helps to soak them up with JB-80 or whatever your choice of lubricant is. Give it plenty of time to work and don't be afraid to do it more than once. It will make your life a lot easier. Quote
alphagtp Posted August 2, 2008 Report Posted August 2, 2008 does anybody knows the size of the big bolt?? it's around 21mm or something I did not had the correct size Quote
Q-Ball Posted August 2, 2008 Report Posted August 2, 2008 It's easy. Well not really, mine were stuck and I had to get an angle grinder in there and cut the bolts off. Quote
5speedz34 Posted August 2, 2008 Report Posted August 2, 2008 ^What he said. If the bolts are rusted I would consider cutting them out and replacing them. Quote

jake63 Posted August 3, 2008 Report Posted August 3, 2008 Agreed, breaking the bolts loose is the worst part of that job ( heat and PB Blaster a neccessity). The rest is cake. Quote
EviLette Posted August 5, 2008 Author Report Posted August 5, 2008 Well in that case I should be working ont hem tomorrow. There is no way in HELL those bolts are rusted up or seized at all. The entire rear suspension came apart less than a month ago. I just needed someone to say its not really uberly hard. Looking at them, I figured there would be a ton of stuff that would have to come out to do it. Quote
Q-Ball Posted August 5, 2008 Report Posted August 5, 2008 Was the trailing arms completly off? I got them off the rear assembly's easily. It's where it connects back to the body, that was my problem. Quote
