Guest GrandPrixlover1
Hello all, long time, no post....I was just thinking about some performance mods I could do to my car. and what most stuck at me was maybe a PCM upgrade. Does anyone know if doing this will give me any signifigant change in performance or economy? or if it is even worth the time and money. Even though my car has some bite to it, just plain stock, I would still like to add, realisticly between 30 to 40 extra horsepower, just for fun and maybe a trip or two to the track for some times. Thanks for any help, and I have one last question: How much do PCM upgrades cost anyways? I WANT MORE POWER, HAHAHAHA!!!
95 vert
Just ordered the PCM for my ride (95 vert-L67) from intense (99 dollars plus core till I return it). I will let you know how much a difference it made-hopefully by this weekend!

Because that will give us an idea of who to recomend, IF a PCM upgrade is even avaialable and what kind of power increases can be had. Euro
Check out Milzy motorsports. They are the only ones who do 3100 pcm's I think...I dunno I don't pay much attention to the 3100. IIRC he has a 3100 94-96 GP
Guest GrandPrixlover1
I drive a 96 GP SE with a 3100 SFI. it only has 82,000 miles on it, and I just serviced it. It's completely stock except for a K&N highflow airfilter, and AC Delco Rapidfire Spark plugs, which I thought was and still is, and forever will be a great investment. 8-)

That being said, even though very little actual POWER is to be made, some PERFORMANCE is left on the table with the stock shift logic. Both the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts are about 200rpm lower than optimal from the factory, and this gets worse once breathing mods (such as a cold air intake and exhaust work) get done. Hell, just bumping the 1-2 shift to 5850rpm or so and the 2-3 to 5700rpm is worth about a tenth in the 1/4 (roughly a car langth). Realistically, bolt-ons (the afforementioned intake and exhaust mods, plus a UDP from MRZ or a used FFP unit) with a custom flash, is likely to only get you 20-25hp over stock all combined..............but done RIGHT, should still only cost you $1000 or so. A PCM *IS* a good start though......... Plus..........any external bolt-on mods to a 3100 will all transfer over to a 3400 swap if you do one later on. And THAT is probably the easiest/best bang for the buck mod for you.
