Hey guys. I haven't been on for awhile, mostly due to working my ass off this summer. Anyway, this may be opinionated elsewhere, but I figure things may have changed. I just got all new exhaust put on my silver '92 Z34. Unfortunately, I cheaped out with the cheapest mufflers I could find, Cherry Bomb Turbo Mufflers. I just wanted a close to stock sound, for a decent price. The unfortunate part is that they are way to loud for my liking. They don't sound absolutely terrible, but just a little obscene for my taste. What is the best for the price mufflers any of you guys/ girls have got or heard. I would like a little growl, but overall, more or less on the quiet side. Also, I still need tips. Simply put, I want to do the same tip idea as on the Monte Z34's, but in chrome or stainless. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would go with the basic Magnaflows and one glasspack. That will eliminate any rasp you might have and it also gives it a very nice tone, and it doesn't drone at all.

Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers are quiet, and while of a chambered design (like pretty much ANY "turbo" muffler), they actually flow fairly well.

And.....use the longest resonator you can fit. Any and ALL LQ1 exhausts need a resonator, otherwise they sound like poo. I would suggest a stainless Thrush resonator.......cheap, perforated core, decent quality.

Plus.....the usual thing I harp on: Mandrel bends if you actually want the most performance

The Magnaflows sound nice, but ARE still a bit louder than the ST's.

And the Thrush resonator, IS essentially a glasspack...........so we are on the same page.

Awesome and thanks for the replies!!!!! I will probably go with one of your suggestions. See, aside from the volume level, the rasp was annoying as hell, particularily around the 1500 to 2000ish range, which I'm sure you're all aware of that. The cruise speed drone wasn't too terrible. I was definitely tolerable; didn't mind that sound really. All in all, I was really surprised when I looked at the exhaust, it was all mandrel-bent and very well done. The guy that did it runs his own little shop, not a real big operation, just does stuff on call, and does real good exhaust stuff, as I was recommended by a bunch of my friends to go to him. I got 2.5 stainless, from the downpipe on back, delete the cat; I supplied the mufflers though, for $160 w/ labor. I thought it was a decent price. What do you guys pay? But yeah, I'll update with progress as soon as wallet permits.

I too tried the cherry bomb turbo muflers on my car and found it to be the most terrible sounding muffler on the planet. I have duals too not a single exhaust and I found the stock dual mufflers were way too expensive, so I bought two dynomax (autozone brand) 3.1 mufflers (they come in 2,2.25 and 2.5 pipe size i think). I just flipped the drivers side muffler upside down. They only cost 30 a piece and I was actually very pleasantly surprised at the sound. It has a very good low rumble and when you get on the gas, its not very loud, but you know I'm coming. Also they have a lifetime warranty. They are not flowmaster or magnaflow loud, they are just perfect imo.

I was searching again for mufflers and I cannot find, for the life of me, the $30 or any dynomax super turbos on autozone.com. I found them once the first day after the reply suggesting those particular mufflers, but now they've disappeared. Anyone know whats goin on or where to find them?
