Smoking

This is on my 99.. I've noticed at stoplights smoke rising from the exhaust when I look in my mirror.. Looks like really light grey smoke... It's not coolant from what I can tell.. The exhaust doesn't smell sweet, and I'm not losing coolant... Best way to describe it is when it's cold outside and the cars running, and you see smoke coming from the exhaust.. It's like that, except it's not cold outside.. Any ideas what's causing this?

To make my car run faster this is what I did. The best EVAR fishing pole mod !!

I want those wheels.

Anyway Will. I'd do a compression test.

It didn't smell like oil in the exhaust.. Just seems to do it until the car gets to operating temp, and then it stops.. You can rev the hell out of it, and it won't blow a blue cloud or anything.. Or was there something else you were thinking of withthe compression test?

I noticed that my 89 with no cat shows a lot more condensation in the exhaust than my 2000 with the cat. Same with my truck, which has no cat. I wouldn't worry about it. Also, the air is usually a lot denser and humid first thing in the morning, so that can also contribute to that.

is your 99 the same one w/ horrible MPG's?

Yep, it's the one getting 12 mpg... I made a thread about the map sensor.. I think I have a vac. leak around the base of it.. I put up a pic in that thread showing a gap around the base of the sensor, which I'm trying to figure out if the gap is supposed to be there, or if somethings warped..

Yeah.. It does it even when it's the middle of the day and 90° out too.. Pretty much anytime it's been sitting for a while.. I'm sure it's just condensation, but I just don't see how it's getting that much in there... I have noticed also that the exhaust seems to get hot really fast.. I'll drive up to work (like a three minute drive) and it sounds like I made a day long trip on the interstate when I park it.

I Bet The Cat Is Doomed. See If It Looks Red At Night....On A Got Night And It Has Been Running. It Might Glow A Bit

Would that make the car run hotter by any chance?

The Exhaust Will Heat Up Quickly And Possibly Glow Faintly In A Dark Night.

It definetely seems to heat up very quickly, like i said in another post, although I don't have any way of temping it... I'll take it for a spin tonight and see if it glows or not..

Yes a plugged cat 9if bad enough) will cause the motor to run a lot hotter. Exhaust gases can't get out fast enough because there is too much pressure and they'll stick around and heat everything up.
