j_mezz Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 Don't know anything about nitrous setups, and I don't mean to derail your thread, but...why do nitrous systems work? Does the nitrous make the gas burn better or is it because the temperature of the mixture is reduced? I've always wondered if the nitrous at the dentists office is explosive, flamable, or just giggle-inducing! Quote

I've always wondered if the nitrous at the dentists office is explosive, flamable, or just giggle-inducing! The air you breathe only contains approx. 21% oxygen, the rest is made up of other chemicals. What Nitrous does is it allows the oxygen saturation in the cylinder to increase to 33%. The system he posted doesn't burn any nitrous. Any gas kept under enough pressure will be cold when the pressure is relieved, just how cold depends on the gas. By blowing it at the intercooler they are able to drop the air intake temps. I think it would be more cost effective to use CO2 instead of NO2, but I don't know what temps the 2 store at.... CSI_MuNkY Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 shit;s for ricers and if it hadn't been used in F&F no one would have that attitude. Jamie Quote

Something else I should of mentioned is that Nitrous Oxide can't exist in our atmosphere, it destabilizes very quickly releasing the oxygen molecules to be burned. Jamie Quote

SSEiyah93 Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 That thing sounds interesting...but complicated... I wish I had money to burn...I'd try it. I don't need the car to be fast or anything, but it sounds like it would run better being cooler and all... With 136k miles I'm all about keeping the car running in top notch condition... Quote

I think it would be way too expensive to have on at all times, if you want to cool it down on a more regular basis you might want to look into alcohol injection. I have no clue how that works. Or you might consider putting a 3rd fan on your rad, you can get them with a temp sensor prob you put in the rad. I know someone that has one in his GP and he has it set up to come on long before the stockers. Mind you he spends a lot of time in heavy traffic... Jamie Quote
SSEiyah93 Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 Yeah, so do I. I spend about 2-3 hours of my day, everyday, all week stuck in rush hour traffic sitting on the highway when it's about 90-100 degrees out and my fan doesn't shut off, it stays on "constantly running" mode but the car still will start getting too hot (not overheating, but hot enough for me to get all nervous) and now I've started to blast the heat while I'm sitting there which burns my feet... But all of that just isn't good for a 19 yr old TGP with 136k on the odometer... There is a simple fix, I could ride the bus...but I just cannot get up that early... Quote

But all of that just isn't good for a 19 yr old TGP with 136k on the odometer... There is a simple fix, I could ride the bus...but I just cannot get up that early... I had that problem... Then I did a radiator flush with new 50/50 mix coolant, put in a 180 degree t-stat, and installed a beefy transmission cooler and my problem was solved. This on a 95 regal with 181k miles on the odometer. Here's my cruising temp now at 75mph: My "in traffic in 90 degrees" temp doesn't go above the halfway mark. Quote
SSEiyah93 Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 See mine never used to until just recently, the never used to let the temp go above 220 (half-way) but all of the sudden it has started to get hot. If I'm cuising at, well at least 20mph (this is in traffic of course) it starts to go down again and there's no problem at speeds above 40, it has never gotten hot, it usually stays I'd say around 180 or so when I'm cruising at anything above 40... But thanks so much for the advice, I will try and gather funds to do that stuff so that I don't have to worry in traffic anymore. Quote

Yeah you might need a coolant flush if you've never done or had one done before. I would definitely put in a 180 degree t-stat for the summer months to help keep your engine cooler. The transmission cooler will help extend the life of your transmission if its a 4T60E. I remember reading that it doesn't do much on the 4T65E, but mine definitely gets too hot to touch within minutes of the car being turned on. Quote
SSEiyah93 Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 It's a TGP so what is that a 4T60E HD, right? I don't know... I know the original owner of the car did more to it then necessary, he would have things fixed and replaced for no reason, so it's very possible that it has a new tranny cooler, I'll look into it... but on the other hand I know the previous owner before me beat the hell out of it, I believe I found a vid on youtube of this kid doing 110... so that's why I wish I could get money because I really want it looked over and a tune-up and what-not, plus new motor and tranny mounts and dog-bones... I will try and get that stuff you mentioned though because I don't want the engine running hot, as if ANYTHING is bad for it, that's probably the worse... Quote
joey b Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 HD or not, I don't know but the TGP got the 4T60 NON-E. The mentioned kit is for vehicles where "NITROUS IS NOT AN OPTION". It just cools the intercooler on a FORCED INDUCTION vehicle. For this application I assure you that CO2 is much cheaper to use. Since both are gasses the same amount of moles (molecules) will be packed into the same volume. There is no advantage to using one more than the other. Quote
AWeb80 Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 I wouldn't use it unless I'm going for dyno numbers....or on the track it would be pointless on the street....unless you need to bump your ricer cred.... Quote

SSEiyah93 Posted July 24, 2008 Report Posted July 24, 2008 for me it's nothing about power, I've said it before, the car doesn't need anymore power, I just want it to stay cool. Quote
