9lumina6
about 2 weeks ago I noticed in my 95 Z-34 Monte that i'd have to turn the key twice to get the engine to turnover and start....(the 1st time the battery would just go on and the engine wouldnt turnover). Now...it's gotten worse....I will have to keep turning the key for a full 2 minutes b4 it will finally decide to turn over. What the hell is goen on here? Andrew
so you are saying you try to start and nothing happens ie the starter is not spinning? or are you saying it just cranks and cranks but wont fire up?

9lumina6
so you are saying you try to start and nothing happens ie the starter is not spinning? or are you saying it just cranks and cranks but wont fire up? Ya nothing is happening.....all the lights on the dash come on so i know the battery is working.....but the starter isnt turning the motor. I have to turn the key like 20 times and then the starter will finally decide to turn over the motor. Would it be the starter itself thats shot? or some solonoid somewhere? Brian P
does your "Security" light stay lit on the dash during this time? Have another key to try?
z34mightymachine
It could be that your altenator is getting weak. I would start with this first by getting it tested.

I dont think its the alternator.....b/c once the car decides to turn over....it has absolutely no struggling to start.
9lumina6
does your "Security" light stay lit on the dash during this time? Have another key to try? The security light goes out........and unfortunately i only have 1 ignition key/1 door key/1 keyless fob. I did just go out and try to start her for the 1st time since friday afternoon and she fired rite up w/o a problem.....turned it off and started it again w/ no problem.......ive noticed its only doing this when its really hot/humid out. Today is not that humid and a nice 75 degrees.
GM Guy
First, clean your battery terminals and the starter connections, not just with a brush, use cleaner too. You can build a film that isn't visible to the eye or touch that will give you hell. If that doesn't work you probably have a bad starter with dead spots and with enough slight movements you eventually bump it to a good spot and it will crank. I wonder if my o-ring leak is starting to get oil near the starter connections.
Brian P
there is a slim chance there's a dead spot in the starter but more than likely it's the Passkey II Theft promoting system.

Brian P
have a new key made up with the correct new resistor chip pill
shyguy164
He said his security light goes out, why are we leaning towards a bad key/resistor pellet? Here's a surefire way to make sure it isn't the starter. Put 12 volts on the solenoid and see what happens. If the starter goes everytime, it's not the starter. shyguy164
because if you rely on an idiot light to tell you the problem...you sir are an idiot!! Right... the light turns on when you start the car and then it turns off after a few seconds unless you've got a problem with the passkey system, right? At least that's what I remember from my owner's manual. So if there's a problem, the light stays on. If the light turns off, can there still be a problem with the resistor/key? Wouldn't the light stay on if there was a problem?

Crazy K
turn key to run position. observe that the security light turns on. it should then turn off after a few seconds, even if you do not try to crank the motor. if it stays on, you have a security system (passkey) issue. if it never goes on... CHECK THE BULB. next item that should be checked... the Neutral Safety Switch.

I checked earlier.....the security light does go on and then off after a few seconds....but now that u mensioned the neutral safety switch.....idk if this has anything to do w/ it, but my shifter is very sticky.... and sometimes i have to put some effort into it to put it all the way in park.......maybe whenever it was doen that it wasnt totally 100% all the way in park.....wich would explain why it was doing that when it was very humid out kinda.
