Engine 'stumbling'?

This is on my 99 LTZ.. I ran an errand in it this evening, and I had the windows down because it was nice out.. I get back home, and I wanted to see how the exhaust sounded when I revved it (I was thinking about a thread I had read on here actually).. So I'm sitting there in the driveway, and I start revving it and it sounded good.. I decided to give it some more gas, and when it started approaching 4,000 RPM, the car just started shaking like crazy and it wouldn't rev any higher.. Thinking WTF, I revved it again.. Same thing happened, felt like the engine was stumbling really bad or something and the car shook.. Is there some sort of rev limiter for when it's not in Drive, or is something a miss? I didn't get any SES lights or anything, so I thought I'd see what you all thought..

That's the rev limiter. Only lets you go to 4000rpm in park. Pop it in neutral to rev to fuel cut.

Thanks! I was actually kind of hoping that there was something wrong that was making it do that though.. I still haven't been able to solve the fuel mileage issue on this car, and I was hoping this would help me.. Oh well.

 believe me, i have been there before.....dad showed me on all the cars the rev limiter.....you could always just brake torque it and see how high it goes, that 3.8 should be able to break the tires.....

You my friend, have an issue with your P/N safety switch  If the car is in park or neutral, it will not rev past the limiter
