So I was driving today. The CS was well warmed up, and since I have never REALLY given it some go, I figure ill WOT it until 90 mph or so a few times.

 

First time. Pinned it at about 30 ish. It downshifted fine, then 1-2 just fine at 38 or whatever, then it stayed in second FOREVER. from 40 to about 70 was fine, then it seemed to stutter a bit to 73 ish and stayed there. And stayed there. And stayed there. It didn't shift 2-3 until I let off.

 

Second time. All was well until 74 ish. I didn't let off. It 'slipped' and wouldn't do anything for quite a bit.

 

Third time. Same routine, woah. It 'slipped' again and wtf stuff started happening. Once it slipped, there was NO throttle response, not even revving. It died you say? No. No lights on the dash whatsoever. I played with the gas pedal from 70 down to about 40, even pushing it all the way to the floor with nothing happening. Then the 'dead' lights came on. I put it in neutral, tried to turn it over and nothing. So I stopped, and it started just fine, revved just fine.

 

Fourth and fifth times it did just as it was supposed to, and shifted fine 1-2 and 2-3 both times. Couldn't reproduce it.

 

WTF?!

My Lumina won't shift into 3rd gear @ WOT either.

Mine wont go into 4th, well it does then pops out again. Goes in and out back and forth. Possibly think it could be the vac Mod.

IN RELATED NEWS:

 

My car just took four or five looooong cranks to start. Has never done this before, and started fine earlier today after a week of sitting. This car is pissing me off.

Mine gets stuck in second too at WOT. What I do is let off the accelerator at the appropriate shift times. The car shifts much nicer and won't hold onto the gear forever

The dying part sounds like either MAP sensor or injectors, my TGP used to do EXACTLY the same thing, I replaced both at the same time and it stopped doing it. But my guess is with the MAP.

And the reason it wouldn't start in neutral is your P/N switch is fucked. Mine is too. If you hold the gear selector between reverse and neutral it'll work though.

i've gotten mine to shift into fourth at WOT at over 100. not sure of the exact speed. i've never had a problem with it shifting at WOT.

And I'd guess 1990lumina is right, your P/N safety switch is being a bitch, try doing what he recommended.

I would agree that's probably your problem. I think there used to be a FAQ about it, and if not the Haynes manual does an ok job explaining how to adjust the P/N safety switch.

Don't get angry with it... Try and fix it or just don't do any WOTs. You have more than enough people on here to help you figure out what's wrong with it and do it cheaply. :high5: If you get a newer cutty to throw money at, someone who gets yours will think it's fucked and scrap it! Don't let that happen! And I REALLY need to get a digital camera so that I can show everyone what my car does when I do a WOT... It does what it's supposed to and works just fine...it just scares the hell outta me and makes me think I'm gonna blow my engine! :sad:

It's not just this stuff. I also want the safety of abs and airbags, I want the newer front and back end, the body cladding, the updated interior...

Yeah... I don't blame you, the way people drive now-a-days I would want all the safety features too... I don't have air bags or traction control anymore but I do have a special car... That with the way people drive I'm afraid to take out... Especially since both of my other cars were victims to some moron driver... Well you got that car for such a good deal just keep driving it until you find something better, look for newer cuttys :biggrin:
