Robby1870
Okay, lately my injectors have been making just a little more noise than usual, but I think they are fine. Anyway, I was turning left in town, and hit the brakes to turn, then go to get back in gas, and I hear, "pop, pop, pop". Im like, great, backfiring, just what I need. So, I pulled over and stopped, thinking I had thrown a rocker off, like last time. But, when I open the hood, all I hear is the back fire and no metal on metal sound like last time. So, Im thinking this is fuel related, like injectors or fuel pump. My roommate's truck would backfire through the intakes (like mine is) and we couldnt figure it out. Turns out, it was his fuel pump, thats why I sorta think this is fuel related, any ideas are welcome Robby
Redfox340
Well, I'd start where you think it could be the culprit. Locate a fuel pressure teste and hook it up to your fuel rail. I agree it's most likely going to be something fuel related... now you've just got to find it. Best of luck Robby! - Erik
Robby1870
I tell you what, I just cant get ahead. Im also thinking of another culprit, Im sorta thinking that one of the rocker nuts unscrewed itself enough to where the exhaust valve doesnt open up enought for all the gas to get out, making it backfire through the intake. So, those are my two probable things. I guess I have something to do tomorrow. I should be able to get the valve covers off pretty quickly (like two hours) to see if it is in the valve train. mfewtrail
it's probably something fuel and/or ignition related, any loss in power noted before you heard the backfiring? odd running...etc.?
ismellrealbad
not to hijack the thread but i think i have something related. i was on my way to the beach saturday and i got gas first. i picked some kid up and on the way i heard a huge LOUD pop sound. i didnt think anything of it and wasnt really sure what it was. i didnt even think it was a sound that came from my car. then i hit the highway, and i heard the exact same sound as i was driving along. realising i was over 20 miles away from the location it happened last it hit me that this loud explosion sounding noise came from my car. it never happened before and it hasnt happened again since...bad gas??? No, there was no loss in performance, it just happened, I do notice that the number 6 plug wire shakes ALOT more than the rest now, if that means anything. I guess I'll find out tomorrow whats wrong Robby
GnatGoSplat
Maybe not your problem, but when the fuel pump went out on the 88 Cutty, it backfired a lot through the intake.
AWeb80
fuel pressure teste - Erik Never heard of a fuel pressure "teste". Mind explaining? j/j
Robby1870
UPDATE: Problem found. #3 exhaust rocker popped off the valve again, and guess why, I broke another pushrod guide plate, and it was a brand new one, and I had PLENTY of clearance when I put it back to gether last time. I really have no idea why it broke this time. I guess its time for the lower intake to come off, AGAIN! Robby
