Looking at getting a motor for my 94 Cutty Convertible, does anybody have part numbers for the older 3.4 and newer 3.4? Does it matter and will a newer 3.4 Gm Long block work in a older equipped car such as my cutty. Thanks in advance.

The '96-'97 engine has different heads.

To start with, and you'd transfer over your intake, plenum??, and exhaust manifolds from your old (1st design) engine on a long block and that won't work on the late LQ1 engine.

If you get the parts for the '96+ engine, you could probably make the change over, but I don't know if the front timing cover had different mounting provisions (alt, power steering, A/C) than the earlier designs. I believe the oil pans might be different too, but that may likely be included on the long block.

being a 94' you cannot use a 91-93 engine unless you swap the timing cover and the front cam carrier over.

best replacement would be a 94-95 engine

a 96-97 engine could work if you swap your intakes over, and use the 96-97 exhaust manifolds and crossover.

Well i ran one part number and it comes up:

10162137

Engine - Camshaft & timing - Carrier

Carrier, all models, left - 3.4l 1994 - 1996

Thats on the motor, think it might be ok?
