xtremerevolution Posted June 24, 2008 Report Posted June 24, 2008 Im sorry for sounding dumb, but what did you do again? IIRC he loved his car so much he raped the side and managed to fuck up the door beyond repair, requiring the installation of a new door. Quote

5speedz34 Posted June 24, 2008 Report Posted June 24, 2008 Someone backed into his car, IIRC. How did you fix it? Quote
alphagtp Posted June 24, 2008 Author Report Posted June 24, 2008 Someone backed into his car, IIRC. How did you fix it? yeah someone backed into my door and broke the window and fucked up the door, getting $1,000+ estimates to fix. so one lucky day I was at a junk yard and found a door for my car same color and on decent shape!!! $44 Quote
5speedz34 Posted June 25, 2008 Report Posted June 25, 2008 I'm anal about OEM stuff so I would've gotten fixed but go you! Quote
runt Posted June 25, 2008 Report Posted June 25, 2008 See, now it makes more sense what you did there. Nice work. Quote

Venom Posted June 25, 2008 Report Posted June 25, 2008 You know its getting real confusing with all these red GP with body damage getting fixed. Quote
EviLette Posted June 25, 2008 Report Posted June 25, 2008 You know its getting real confusing with all these red GP with body damage getting fixed. The only reason I can keep them straight is because I've seen both cars in person. Glad you got yours fixed, man! Looks great. Quote
alphagtp Posted June 25, 2008 Author Report Posted June 25, 2008 yeah Jason I got it from the u-pick it!! when I went back to actually get the door and get more stuff, the door on the passanger side was messed up that is why I didnt mentioned to you. I did get the door for me since I already had a glass anyway... Quote
jeremy Posted June 25, 2008 Report Posted June 25, 2008 I'm anal about OEM stuff so I would've gotten fixed but go you! did I miss the part where he said he used aftermarket parts Quote
5speedz34 Posted June 26, 2008 Report Posted June 26, 2008 Well I mean like original to the car...like factory... Quote
jeremy Posted June 26, 2008 Report Posted June 26, 2008 Well I mean like original to the car...like factory... so you would rather repair a fucked up smashed door then putting on another OEM door that is straight but from a different vehicle? How would you propose that he could have fixed the door that was smashed? Quote

jeremy Posted June 26, 2008 Report Posted June 26, 2008 but how would taking it to a body shop be any better then what he did? your post implied that an replacement GM door is somehow sub-standard to getting his original one fixed, which makes absolutely no sense to me. It's not like his is taking an aftermarket front fascia to replace a fucked up OEM one.... I personally would rather have an factory GM part that has never been damaged then one that has been repaired Quote

It's not like his is taking an aftermarket front fascia to replace a fucked up OEM one.... I personally would rather have an factory GM part that has never been damaged then one that has been repaired I guess I'm just going off of classic cars. Original is always better than replacement. OEM replacement is better than aftermarket junk, but personally keeping original parts with the VIN tags etc is the most important. Of course I look at these cars much differently than most people do. Obviously, if its cheaper in the long run to put a OEM junkyard part on then of course thats the way I would go. But, I would try to preserve the original factory part as long as possible. Quote
White93z34 Posted June 26, 2008 Report Posted June 26, 2008 a OEM replacement is FAR superior to pounding the dents out of a screwed up door and *trying* to fill it and make it look right. my camaros doors are rusted out, bad, so by your logic i should hack them back together and attempt to make them look right rather then get a rustfree OEM set and paint them to match, just so i can say i have the little VIN sticker in the door? and lets go another step here, my bonnevilles trunk lid was smashed in when I got the car, I found one the EXACT same color with the SSE badge and the spoiler at the junkyard, you would have sooner pounded the massive dents out of it and repainted it then just buying this EXACT oem replacement? Quote
5speedz34 Posted June 26, 2008 Report Posted June 26, 2008 As I stated earlier it depends in Alpha's case I would've fixed it. In your case chris I would've done what you did. Quote

But for a car that are in abundance at any junkyard it just makes more sense to replace the part entirely. Quote
