Hairdo12 Posted June 23, 2008 Report Posted June 23, 2008 EDIT: OK, went outside with a coworker and they turned the steering wheel for me while I listened and looked. Is the spring supposed to move when the wheel is turned? The noise seems to be coming from the spring. I'm just gonna limp this thing home and put it up on jack stands until I can get it fixed. Old post: This is on a 92 Lumina: I have a noise coming from the driver side front that kinda sounds like a low moan from a door hinge. This only occurs during left hand turns and not during the return from left to strait. The front struts are about five months old and I just replaced the ball joints. I also had the tie rod ends popped and verified the strut assemblies move freely. I can feel it slightly through the floor and in the steering wheel. I took off the strut tower plates and I noticed the notch in the rubber bushing is not in its slot and is about 1/4 inch to the right. Is it possible the bushing being out of place is causing this noise? There are no clunks when driving or noise when making slight lefts. If I jerk the wheel to the left while going slow, the noise is more noticable. I also fear its the strut bearing going bad. After batteling for five hours to replace the original ball joints, I don't have the drive currently to pull that assembly out... of which I'll be even more POed because that would have made ball joint replacement easier. However if itwere the bearing, wouldn't I have steering wheel return problems and wouldn't the strut showed some sign of binding when I had the tie rod ends popped off? Thanks. Quote
