ns87
check the fuel pressure with a gauge, sounds like the fuel pump to me
Venom
Might have a vacuum line off also, causing it to die out when idling.
kaptnjack
mine started this similar thing yesterday too. Start it,,,stumbles and dies, start it...pat the gas and try to get up rpm but sputters and misses and will try to die. let it idle and it will but weakly. Strange,,,let it sit 20 minutes...fire right up and run like a top. Then drive around ten minutes and cut it off...try to start it back and no go...have to raise the hood and let it cool...seems like. The car has a new stat and is cooling nicely. no intention to hijack but my issue is similar...I will share what I learn.
meltboy1
ya, I thought vacuum line or the plug that goes to the air filter box, so I checked and every line seemed to be connected that I could see, took out the air filter to check it, and it wasn't dirty... but it wasn't clean either ya know, so I shaked it off a bit... started it up and it ran fine shortly after my post last night. I don't have a fuel pressure tester yet, I plan to pick on up, they are fairly cheap.
RareGMFan
Testing the fuel pressure is a good start. Way too many possibilities that need to be narrowed down. Also, when you press the accelerator to keep the car running, does it run smooth, or is it missing/sputtering at all?
meltboy1
Gah..I hate to waste my 500th post on a response to a question, but since it is helping me out it is ok... lol I drove it around today a good while and it was fine, not a single problem since I checked everything last night. But to answer your question, no it didn't sputter or anything, it was smooth as long as I was moving or giving it gas, but the second I put the clutch down if I wasn't giving it gas it just died right out. Weird, but I think what happened was... that sensor on the air filter box is the IAC right??... well when I took it off a couple weeks ago the clip broke so it just sits in there, I am thinking maybe it shook itself loose, cuz after I looked at everything and plugged it back in, it's been fine. intern8tion9l
that sensor is the IAT(intake air temperature)...the IAC is on the front side of the throttle body
rockfangd
x2 the iac is on the TB. you cant miss the iat sensor
