Stencil
Sounds like either an ignition switch or park/neutral swtich. I had this happen a time or 2 in my 89 Beretta -- everything was on, turned the key and NOTHING. I'd take the tranny in and out of park a few times and then it would go. i drove home last night at 2:30 am. lights radio and subs all working. today the car wont start. me adn my dad tested and believe the battery is crap so i replaced it with a new battery. the car still wont start. the engine doesnt turn over and the starter doesnt click at all. everything works and teh tranny is in park. whats next? PaPaPooh
get a break over bar with the right socket and see if it will turn over manualy if it does check the wireing
Stencil
If he doesn't hear a click, then the engine isn't siezed -- I spent a day once debugging a "just click" problem with my friend's GTU, and it turned out the motor was locked up! Another thing to check is if the voltage gauge shows a current draw when you try and start it. get a break over bar with the right socket and see if it will turn over manualy if it does check the wireing
topless94style
their aint a damn sound coming from the engine. i checked some fuses but they are all good. every last thing electrical works. i dont think the start is out. my dad thinks something might be grounding something but fuck if i know. Stencil
One way to test the starter -- get a long screwdriver and a hammer and bang on the big part of the starter. If a coil gets stuck, or the solenoid goes bad, this will sometimes break them loose and make them work. their aint a damn sound coming from the engine. i checked some fuses but they are all good. every last thing electrical works. i dont think the start is out. my dad thinks something might be grounding something but fuck if i know. Slade901
Try starting the car in Neutral. Check the battery connector for barely loose wires and check those fuses.

topless94style
Yea we tested the battery and it puts out a charge of 12.45. Then we tested the battery to the starter it puts out 12.4. then we jumped the starter and it works. by jumped i mean touched the power wire and the smaller wire with a screw driver and it turned on and scared the fuck outta me. so now what? Stencil
Your back to where I was leading you in my original post -- it's most likey an ignition switch or park/netrual switch. I suggest you pick up a Haynes or Chilton's manual from a parts store -- they have decent diagnostic charts in them and wiring diagrams. Yea we tested the battery and it puts out a charge of 12.45. topless94style
Heres an update....i let the car sit over night and i just tried to start it around 3:30central time and the battery is dead. Brand new battery is dead the only thing that works is the chime. Last night or evening or whatever everything worked except it wouldnt start. I got a chilton and the only other reason i think it wouldnt start is the stupid antitheft thing. i tried the park/nuetral thing and nothing. well thats cuz the battery is dead. so something is draining the battery. man what a freakin hassle and ive had the car for just over a month. help is greatly apreciated. Slade901
Well, you need to trace which line is draining the battery. Defective/failed starter solenoid drains a battery. Get a 12v light tester from local autoparts store. Get a starter/battery charger or borrow one and charge the battery up to full. 1. Disconnect the positive cable that connects to the battery and connect the 12v light tester between them. The light should light up. 2. Disconnect the alternator connector plug and see if the light turns off. If the light turns off then wirings or on the alternator is at fault. If the light does not turn off go to next step. 3. The positive cable is usually spit into two. One wire goes near the fuel pump relay/fuse and the other wire goes to the starter motor. So, just unscrew the nut that holds the wire that goes near the fuel pump relay/fuse. Now, you have isolated the wire by itself which should be now only connected to the starter motor. Connect the 12v light tester on the battery positive terminal and other end to the positive cable. If there is a light then problem on the starter motor/wire is found. If there is no light then proceed to the next step. 4. Now connect the 12v light tester between the battery positive terminal and the other end unto the terminal (the one where you remove the nut near the fuel pump relay/fuse). If there is a light then you have start removing fuses in the fuse block one at a time until the light turns off. When the lights turns off then the last fuse removed has short along its wiring and components connected to it.
