topless94style
How well would this improve my horsepower? If i take out the stock cat and replace it with either a straight pipe or cherry bomb and then take off the stock mufflers and add on 2 Flowmaster 40 or 50 series mufflers. Would this be a good set up or is there better?
god910
You'll get tons of different responses about what sounds "good" Only you can answer that q'. I cut off my cat, and kept the stock 100K+ muffler and sounds pretty good to me. I am going to add a 60 series FlowMaster when I get around to doing it. I like the sound of it on their website. You can go and listen to the different ones, but the 60 is the only one designed w/ a V-6 in mind. And the only one you can hear w/ a smaller motor. All the rest are v-8's. mfewtrail
I don't think you will see much of a gain w/ just exhaust work, but it should add a decent amount. By putting a cherry bomb or resonator in place of the cat, I think you will be helping yourself by not letting the exhaust be too free-flowing causing low-end torque loss(not a good thing for you or so I've been told about the lacking low-end on the DOHC's)...anyways, you should pick up some more mid-top end power w/ exhaust work, especially noticeable after killing the cat and having less restriction in the exhaust, you might consider running slightly larger piping(preferably mandrel bent.....stainless steel, if the wallet allows for longetivity reasons)...I'm sure some of the guys w/ ehxaust work on their 3.4's should be able to point you in the right direction and tell you what kinda gains they picked up/noted from the exhaust work, I believe it's "GrandPrix34" on here that has a video clip/ehaust clip of his car w/ 40 series(???) flowmasters...just look around for his sn and click on his "www" tab. RomeoZ34
I have just plain old flowmasters on mine and I don't like it. I plan on eventually doing a 2.25 in catback w/a mandrel bent downpipe w/ carsound cat converter, cherry bomb resonator and 2 borla mufflers. I LOVE the way Borla's sound. I have heard magnaflows are pretty good too. I have heard DykZ34's, which is only glasspacks instead of mufflers, and it sounded great. Cheap too, might be worth a shot. god910
My TGP has no exhaust whatsoever, at all. I like the sound for the 10-12 seconds I get to listen to it a day.
Panopticon
Im going 2.5 + cat (i dont like being a pollution whore) + y-pipe + dual flowmaster-60 series. on the 3.8L it will sound amazingly low and mean.
topless94style
Thanks for the help. Not a big fan of borla. i guess i havent heard any of their mufflers besides on the rice burners. i dont want my car to sound like a rice burner. i want a deep rumble tone. along with the added power. how much are the 60 series mufflers? and what about tips? i like the dual tips on each muffler but i cant find any stainless steal ones that look good and wotn rust. another question...if i add a bigger sway bar to the rear will i have to get my exhaust custom bent to fit? RomeoZ34
Trust me, Borla doesn't sound ricey. I head it on LukeZ34's old website w/ video clips of the first W-body gathering, and a GTP had Borla's and had a really deep rumble to it. The 60series I think I paid 70 each for them. I just bought some generic tips they had at the exhaust shop.
