RobertISaar
went to the j/y today because of an incident with a deer last night, looking for a passenger door and fender. came across a beretta with a 5 speed, what all needs to be modified to work with a 95 monte? it looks like everything was there to salvage. according to the hood it came with a 3.1 and is model year 94. according to wikipedia, thats not possible. is it obd1.5 or 1? i cant remember what all models gm fucked in 94-95 with the shit. ManicMechanic
1994 Berettas had the 3100, not 3.1. Either the hood was replaced or it was a 2.2 or Q4 car. And an L body trans won't even come close to bolting up in a W.
meltboy1
I thought as long as it was a V6 L body it was a feasible scenario with a little bit of fab work...
GP1138
I believe the bellhousing is different.
meltboy1
I believe the bellhousing is different. really??? I find that rather surprising... but hey, you never know
digitaloutsider
Bellhousing is same. It's the rest that's different.
GP1138
Bellhousing is same. It's the rest that's different. Maybe I was thinking of the J-body transmissions.
digitaloutsider
The bellhousing pattern should be the same as long as it's bolting to a 60 degree.
GP1138
http://www.w-body.com/forum/index.php?topic=40936.15 That's the thread I was thinking of. I knew it was one of those letters. L-body!

GutlessSupreme
The the bellhousing will bolt up fine, but the W-body case is the only one that will bolt into a W without fabwork. NONE of the other cases have provisions for our mounts to bolt up, and of course the slave setup is different but that's probably an easy enough work around. Another thing is that only Ws (and a few Berettas, not sure on specifics) ever got the intermediate shaft, but I'm fairly certain that the Beretta's is shorter than ours. ShockTherapy
not to mention, the gear ratios would be different than a w-body trans.
GutlessSupreme
Actually, from my research it appears that V6 W and V6 J 282s have the same ratios. I confirmed that V6 W gearing is 3.50/2.05/1.38/.94/.72/3.61, and most info I've seen on J's shows the same.
TurboSedan
i thought the W-body V6 282 gearing was 3.77, 2.19, 1.38, 1.04, .81 with 3.61 FDR? at least that is what 60degreev6.com used to show. i was under the impression that all J/L V6 282 got 3.50, 2.05, 1.38, .94, .72 + 3.61 FDR. which i guess would make sense since the W is heavier than the J/L body. Crazy K
I have a 5 speed from a 91 GTZ, for a HO Q4. in case I ever get to make a Q4 5 speed car. it was cheap enough.... it has no intermediate shaft housing. it has basically a "cv axle extension" shaft that comes right out of the passenger side of the tranny, unliek the W282s that have a extension to the case. how are Q4 W body 282s configured????? w extension shaft in a housing, or just a direct extension shaft without a housing?
