meltboy1
I don't know, it just doesn't sound right when you give it gas, and it looks like the tensioner might be on it's way out?.. think I just need a new belt?
Venom
Its hard to tell from the video, but it does look like a lot of movement, but no sound on my laptop to listen to You can also try to manually move the tensioner yourself. If you can, its a good indication that it is bad.

EviLette
I don't think they are too bad, though I could be wrong. I seem to remember replacing it on my car, and I don't remember the dollar/cents figure... so it must not have been too expensive. Maybe 40 bucks or so? meltboy1
ya, I'll pick one up next week when I get the money.
RareGMFan
They're pretty inexpensive. Definitely too inexpensive to waste time/money grabbing another 15+ year old one from the yard. I just came across one I bought from NAPA a while back for the TGP. Since I'm selling all my 3.1L cars, I won't need it anymore. If you want, I can get you a price on it as soon as I dig up a receipt to see what I paid for it (if I can't find it right away, I'll call NAPA tomorrow and find out what they charge). I'll charge a bit under whatever I paid for it.
meltboy1
okidoki, thanx, leme know... it will be like a week or so til I can put some more money into the car. insurance and cc bills are due...
GP1138
That failed on my old 3100 in my first '95 GP - I went to the yard and grabbed one from a '00+ 3100 GP for $15 and never gave another thought to it.
meltboy1
just replaced with brand new tensioner and it's still doin the same thing...
jake63
Can't tell from the sound clip but if there's a whining noise maybe the bearing on your water pump is shot.
meltboy1
that's the thing, it's not a typical power steering pump noise, but it definately sounds like it is coming from that area, it is almost more of a rattling noise... jake63
If you can get behind the pulleys with a spray lube extension tube when it's running try spraying near the shaft of each pulley and see if the noise changes, if it does, that's your suspect bearing. Brian P
it was hard to tell, but it looked like your harmonic balancer (crank pulley) was shaking like crazy. Might be time for a new one?
meltboy1
I'll take a look, I didn't think they went bad.
