thekrazykat
long time reader on this forum....just signed on and wanted to share some exhaust experiences. i have a 1991 regal gs coupe with a series 1 3800 about 105k. my car started giving me that rotten egg smell last week, and yep, the cat converter was clogged (probably because my O2 sensor was cracked in half and idling in nyc traffic). i bought a direct fit high flow magnaflow 23490. stock exhaust of 1991 regal 3800 consists of 2 1/2" from the exhaust manifolds to converter, output of converter is 2 1/2", then changes to 2 1/4" rapidly and its 2 1/4" the rest of the way to the 90 degree bend. installed it and it was RASPY! and loud!, back pressure was def too low! when you install these you need to get a resonator with it or it will be too raspy. i installed a summit 2 1/4" glasspack SUM-630812. it looked like they have a 2" core with louvres (helped getting some needed backpressure). its 24" total length...anything more than that and you will have problems installing it after the converter. sounds pretty good now....cannot hear it when idles, or light accelerating. there's def a growl when you floor it though . drove it on the nj turnpike last night...sooo smooth doing 80...pulls much better than before... so if you install a high flow on these engines...you probably should add a resonator. oh by the way i will try to post some pics of my car and my other regal w-bodys... 1991 regal gs coupe- black, grey leather interior, 105k 1995 regal gs sedan- white and gray, with gray leather int, 110k 1996 regal gs coupe- 70k miles, white, tan leather, fully optioned! as you can see, i like the regal gs...the 1990-1996 with the 3800s are solid automobiles. very well made. CSI_MuNkY
Just a heads up, that Magnaflow high flow Cat made me fail the e-test miserably, changed the cat to a standard Walker cat, and I passed with flying colors. And my next time out at the track, my ET went down. I really should get a longer resonator to deal with my rasp....... meh Jamie
