Drummer
This has been going on for a little while know although it could be a ground. my starter starts fine although once in a while as it's starting it stops dead like it hit a brick wall, and it just won't turn over. I turn off the car and turn it back on and starts up no problem. I think it could be a ground problem, but maybe not, I've never had a starter go on me ever. What are your thoughts. slick
What do you mean it just won't turn over? Do you hear a click? How strong are the dashboard lights?
Drummer
What do you mean it just won't turn over? Do you hear a click? How strong are the dashboard lights? It will turn over, but then just stop, doesn't click or anything, just stops like something seized up. The lights are just fine not dimmed or anything. Drummer
hooray another thing i have to change other than inner and outer tie rods tom.
spiderw31
Yep... definately time to replace the starter. Just FYI, if it ever hits that dead spot and just refuses to come back, give it a few taps with a hammer. It'll sometimes move the mechanism just enough to get it to work again. I had to do that all the time in college untill I replaced it.

oldscsc
put a 3400 starter in it. What are the advantages of a 3400 starter compared to an LQ1 starter?
EviLette
IIRC its smaller and has more torque. Starts better, quicker, lasts longer, and easier to change out IIRC.
oldscsc
IIRC its smaller and has more torque. Starts better, quicker, lasts longer, and easier to change out IIRC. Well what's not to love...sounds like an all around better starter.
EviLette
Yeah, I was gonna grab the newer one when I did mine... IDK why I didn't. Probably just worried that it wouldn't work and I'd read the information wrong... I only state information on a thread pertaining to an answer to a question when I'm 99.9% sure that it's right... ususally because I've read it multiple times elsewhere on this forum. lol
Drummer
just got one today, and i didn't even have to do anything it was sitting right on a seat, Although i did make sure it was the right one before i got it. You can't return a damn thing, thats why their prices are so cheap, they don't want to screw you too badly.

GP1138
They sound nicer too when they are cranking. I think they sound like a frigging toy when they're cranking.
GOT2B GM
But, they don't sound like the old "cranking over a tractor from the 30's" starter.
