CutlassSupreme
I currently have a 97 olds cutlass that im putting the stock suspension back on. The problem is that I have a big leaf spring in the back and need a special compressor tool that I will only be using 1 time. Well this tool is around 500$ and that is a bit steep to spend. I have searched at a few autoshops and autozone pepboys nobody has one Do any of you guys have one? Or any advise? Thanx for your help . 5speedz34
I've never removed the leaf but I think you can get away without it.

GnatGoSplat
I have one, but it's WAY too heavy to loan out, the shipping cost would be ridiculous. Where are you located? I got it pretty reasonable on eBay.

Brian P
I've never needed to use that tool. You just insert the end of the spring into one knuckle, then undo the opposite side strut upper mount, let it drop as low as possible, insert other end of spring into loose knuckle, then jack up the knuckle/strut assembly back into place and bolt up the upper mount. Done.

intern8tion9l
the service manual calls for far too many "special tools"

mfewtrail
Some special tools do make jobs easier, but a lot of them unnecessary. I've built some of my own "special" tools.
1990lumina
My school had a monoleaf compressor for the Ws - since we have the GM training there GM donates all the tools ocne a year to the school. Where I work at Suzuki we have a whole wall of special tools that rarely, if ever, get used.

I should show the picture of my w-body front strut tool. Except that i only had to use it when the knuckle was out of the car. It might work in the car.
