GutlessSupreme
I'm replacing the oil pan gasket on the TSTE in my quest to eliminate all of my leaks I'm pretty sure it was leaking around the rear main cap, but not the rear main itself. But anyway, I have a Felpro Permadry silicon gasket. The instructions say to install dry, without chemical adhesives. I was planning on RTVing the shit out of both sides of it before I attempted to reinstall it and the oil pan, especially since the area around the rear main cap and bottom of the timing cover never seemed to fit too snug. thoughts? should I go dry or RTV it? The first gasket I'd RTVed.
Bake82
I would definetly RTV around the ends no questions. My GM rebuilt crate motor had RTV along the complete oil pan, and I reinstalled my new gasket with RTV all around the whole thing.
Nick1234
i think i put rtv on when i did mine. It sucked doing that cause i could never actually get the oil pan out.
GutlessSupreme
I got mine out, but for how much trouble it was, I might as well have pulled the engine (I already had the Getrag out). The fucking pickup tube kept getting caught on the baffle in the pan and I'm pretty sure I fucked up the angle on it, which means that I'm somehow going to have to reclearence it from the bottom of the pan while in the car, but without knocking it out again while removing/install the pan suckass. Nick1234
i had the motor on a lift being pulled up and the subframe unbolted at a couple corners and STILL couldn't get the bitch out.
Bake82
The only way I could see getting that pan out would be 1. pull the motor, 2. Drop the subframe. when I had to change the oil pump I dropped the subframe...it was also a pain in the ass!!
