djrobnyc
I'm looking to potentially purchase a 1995 with the 3.4 liter engine. Since I consider myself a technical novice, I wanted to get an idea of a the top 5 things I need to look for on the car (it has 113,000 miles on it.) I'm not sure what type of service records (if any) there are, but plan to bring it to a mechanic for an independent inspection. Any info on the items the mechanic would need to pay close attention to? Thanks.
Fmr12B
Remove timing belt cover and inspect belt - hopefully it beens replaced once Check for worn blown struts Ensure top latches are functional, top moves up & down with ease Ensure remote keyless entry works and trunk unlatches easily Rear window whould be in good shape, top as well, with no loose seams or frays. Psych0matt
that's a pretty good list right there. Also, if you're able, run a hose a long the window edges and check for leaks.
oldscsc
that's a pretty good list right there. Also, if you're able, run a hose a long the window edges and check for leaks. You can do this, BUT never shoot high pressure water right at the seams. Automatic car washes are a big NO-NO in any convertible (except maybe retractable hardtops). -Check the top, as mentioned above. It may very well be original, if that's the case there are probably a couple seams wanting to come loose. -Check how well the back glass is attached to the top, many want to come off and sometimes have to be resealed. -Of course check the audio and A/C systems, along with heat if it's possible. Remember to try both sides' A/C since it is a '95.
ManicMechanic
Some 1995s don't have dual zone.
oldscsc
Just figured they all did because I've never seen one without it...
ManicMechanic
It's rare to find one that doesn't, but I've come across 4 without it.
oldscsc
Hmmm...good to know, I just figured it was standard. The '95 didn't have near the amount of options or option variation as the earlier ones though...
