badprix
Robby and I got down to business at 12 p.m. and got the rear head off at 4:30 everything was going smoothly then the front head is where everything turned crappy. Had to take the dogbone braces off and the left one had several bolts that were tighter than the head and exhaust manifold bolts! The last bolt head is stripped and so now were stuck and hopefully it will stop raining.
Andrew
what i always do as a last resort in this kind of sitation is not the best way but it has always worked for me. first thing to do is spray some Liquid wrench on the bolt and let it sit for a while. if its rusted in there at all it will loosen up. then get a socket one size smaller than what you were using and pound it on the bolt with a hammer. then use a breaker bar to get the bolt loose. i had to do this when i replaced a hub assembly on my Z. make sure you buy a new bolt before you go and put things back together, you sure as hell dont want to have this problem again!! Robby1870
Ha! Funny you mention that, cuz I tried that, and no go. We just left the front head on, since the rear gasket had a definite crack in it, and were hoping that the front head gasket is fine. RomeoZ34
I'm a big fan of the smaller socket pounding to remove those shitty 10 year old bolts!! I bet I did it at least 3 times when we pulled my motor last summer!
badprix
Upper intake is on now and all I have left is the ps pump, a few of the sensors to connect, the coolant return pipe, the throttle linkages, airbox and the battery. Oh and a vacuum hose that I have no idea where it goes. It runs down underneath the firewall but after that I couldnt find the rest of it. Robby1870
Allen, I bet that vacuum hose the 2nd one that connects to the Charcoal Canister Purge Solenoid (the thing next to the MAP). Lemme know when its running Robby
badprix
IT RUNS! but theres steam coming out of the engine bay and it overheats and it idles at 2 grand. any suggestions?
GnatGoSplat
Did you spill any coolant? Did you bleed the cooling system? I'd check those things too. Keep an eye out for coolant leaks, that intake gasket can be tricky. Check the oil to make sure no coolant is getting in there.
Robby1870
IT RUNS! but theres steam coming out of the engine bay and it overheats and it idles at 2 grand. any suggestions? Is it a lot of steam? Its prolly just what got spilled burning off. Mine did the same thing. As long as its not billowing out of there, you should be fine. Now, the idling at 2 grand sounds like a vacuum leak. Can you hear any hissing coming from the plenum? Or, do you have an vacuum lines not attached? Do you have any codes?? badprix
The hose going to the water pump was leaking so I fixed that so theres less steam but theres still some coming out from around the crosspipe and lower intake but that might just be where grease and oil is burning off. There is no steam or smoke from the exhaust, no codes, oil pressure is fine, idle really high and temperature starts to approach the 260 degree mark. im gonna go bleed the system now and check the oil. which fuse is the ecm fuse so i can reset it? Robby1870
Good to hear it seems to be working out, and yeah, that stuff near the x-over is just oil and grease burning off. Just disconnect the neg. battery cable for like 10 minutes, or the ECM fuse should be in the fuse panel on your passenger side. Mine is next to where my coolant resevoir is, but I think yours is behind that black panel thing. Thats why I said to just take off the neg battery cable instead. The only thing I can think of for your high idle is maybe your IAC valve. Maybe it didnt like my RTV job, lol. You might have to get one from a junk yard and try that to see if it idles and better Robby
badprix
I did a search on here and I followed Shawn's instructions to bleed the coolant and it worked everything is in tip top shape except I need a new radiator drain plug. Guess I forgot to tighten it and I lost it last night, but I drove it to work and delivered pizzas and she runs great! Thank you Robby. I sure do appreciate it man. I'm not used to driving her. I forgot how loud it was and maybe its just me but it feels faster than before even though I havent got on it yet because I wanna wait untill I change the oil. Robby1870
Well, Im really glad its working fine for you man. It should feel a little faster, getting some of that gunk out of there prolly helped. Im glad it worked out and the front head gasket is fine.
