89SupremeCutty
my lumi has 133k mi on it and i've owned it since 115k mi. the last owner owned it from about 2004-2007 and im not sure if the tranny filter was ever changed. the fluid dosn't smell bad and is still red. with 133k on the clock im worried about changing the filter and putting new fluid in it. with the amount of mileage on it, should i not even bother or should i do it? GutlessSupreme
If it doesn't smell burnt and it's still the right color, I'd go ahead and do it. From what I gather you only really need to worry if the fluid is shit brown with an equal consistency and smell and you've had no idea how long it's been that way. Venom
Yeah I say change it. If you plan on keeping the car awhile you can also install a drain plug so the next time will go a little less messy. I know B&M sells them.

I know B&M sells them. I wouldn't change the fluid unless I do a filter too..... I just did mine...I'd look into a shift kit while in there.....only takes a few extra minutes....check my write up thread.... and WIX filter is good....that is what I just put in along w/ Valvoline Max-life ATF...Red quart bottles http://www.valvoline.com/pages/products/product_detail.asp?product=6 I put this in the last time, and after 5 auto x's in 90*+ heat and a couple 1K mile plus road trips, it came out still looking GREAT. 89SupremeCutty
thanks for the info. the fluid is still red in color and dosn't smell burnt or bad or anything. i wasn't going to flush out the fluid at all, i was just going to change the filter and put new fluid in to replace what was lost. as far as a shift kit goes, how's it work? if it's worth it for a DD, then i might consider it. EDIT: i just saw the write up on the shift kit. i wouldn't know how thick to make the bushings or how hard it shifts.
AWeb80
go with .25" for the 1-2 and 3/8" for the 2-

What Im saying is, if you install a drain plug, you get drain most of the fluid out without having to loosen a few bolts at a time and let the pan drop slowly to drain the fluid. Much less messy and it goes a little quicker too. I wouldnt change the fluid without changing the filter also.
