GOT2B GM
So Ive installed my JVC in dash DVD player. Soldered and heat shrunk all connections. Soldered the power antenna output directly to the power antenna wire in the dash harness. When I select Tuner as a source, the radio makes a loud buzzing sound. Adjusting the volume makes no difference. You can mute it and it still buzzes. Basically as long as the antenna has power. CD and all other modes work fine. If I unhook the power antenna wire, it works fine (asides from the fact I dont get very good reception with it down) Is the power antenna drawing too much amperage from the deck? Do I need to wire in a relay? Thanks.
kwk39018
Check the power antenna ground in the trunk.

GOT2B GM
So this is how I have to wire my relay to power my power antenna right?
slick
You really shouldn't have to use a relay for the antenna. The buzzing is from interference that the antenna is picking up. I'd start by checking out the motor wiring, making sure that none of the wire insulation is worn, check and recheck the ground (even hit it with a wire brush), and then lastly follow the antenna wire through the vehicle itself, making sure that it has not worn through or disconnected at one of the joints somewhere. Hell... somewhere in the vehicle, the actual antenna turn on lead itself could be shorting. It's tough saying. I'll take a look into what some others think it might be, and post up what they suggest. GOT2B GM
ok thanks, just seems weird that it works fine with the stock deck.
w-bodys_are_the_best
I always needed a relay in my 94 cutlass. I didn't have the buzzing sound, but the antenna would pop up like 2 or 3 inches and go back down and stay. I was told I needed a relay because my Kenwwod didn't push out enough amperage on the lead wire, and if I left it hooked up the way it was, I would burn out my remote lead wire on the Kenwood. I just left it wired in when I used 2 other decks, so not sure with those ones.
GOT2B GM
Fixed it by wiring in the relay as shown above.
slick
Fixed it by wiring in the relay as shown above. Odd.... I have never had that issue in the thousands of vehicle's I've done installations in. Glad it fixed your problem!
