dohc v6
Ok this goes out to you guys that have the 284, or for that matter any 5 speed that it a GM. When we had the tranny rebuilt we also replaced the cables as well. Well today my brother was driving the car and the end where the ball socket attaches to the transmission broke off. Now he has a big hole from the ball socket braking. So I was just wondering if anyone has a fix for this. I know this has happened to my sunfire as well. Hal H
If this is the "select" cable (end of cable is white color plastic), that one is still (was in '06) available. If it is the the shift cable with black (larger) plastic end, no longer available. I had the retainer/bushing disintegrate on my shift cable and had a custom cable made by a local company with metal ends. Its now retained on the tranny with washers and metal "C" clip. White93z34
are you talking about the area on the trans where the shift cable connects to the linkagge? also, any idea what it ran your brother to get that 284 rebuilt? pictures would be a big help there is a very vague possibility that i can get some random 284 parts. dohc v6
This is the cable inside the engine bay that has a black end. The actual ball socket piece. I see on westcoastfiero.com they have shift cables wondering if they would work?? WE got the trans rebuilt by a company out of tallahassee. It goes by MANTRANS, cost about $650 but they did not have all the parts.

GutlessSupreme
Rodney Dickman does Fiero cables but I believe he'll also do custom length cables if you send him the specs. I think he can replace those fittings too but I can't remember. I'd contact him. http://www.rodneydickman.com
skalor
This happened to the 284 in my TGP. The bushing in the one cable disintegrated from the heat. I ended up machining a few of my own bushings out of delrin.
dohc v6
Let me see if I cant design some new type of bushings. I will have a couple extras made so that I can sell them. Mark
BIGBULS
Jeff B on Neons.org sells "Booger" bushings for Neons, and some of them also fit 284's. I know, because I HAVE some.......... http://www.boogerracing.com/boogerbushings.html Canada bugged him about it and got the stuff made for the 284's a couple of years ago.
