EviLette
Just about to do a tune-up on my car. Plugs/wires Fuel pumpFILTER Oil Change The only one of these I've actually done on my car was the oil change. I don't think the fuel pump FILTER will be too hard... the plugs/wires is gonna be the trickiest bit of the whole shindigg, imho. Just wondering... is there anything I need to know before I start doing this? I know i gotta gap the plugs, so leave that one out.
ns87
If you're not worried about doing the fuel pump, the plugs and wires are piece of cake. Just rotate the engine foward and take your time. The back ones aren't as bad as they look. Make sure you have a spark plug attachment on your socket set (the one with the foam inside) so you don't break anything! Do one wire at a time so they don't get mixed up
digitaloutsider
I'd rather do plugs and wires on just about any car I can possibly think of rather than a fuel pump on a first-gen. There's no way that rocking the engine forward and pulling plugs is more difficult than dropping a tank (ESPECIALLY on a northern car) and R&R'ng a pump. Venom
I just did plugs and wires on my car a few weeks ago and it literally took me 20 minutes! I love being able to rock the engine forward as opposed to digging blindly like I did on the 3100 on my old Beretta.
sonyman87
when you get a fuel pump be sure to replace the sock! those are sold separately also while your down on the fuel system get a fuel filter they are a cakewalk compaired to the pump. while you have the plugs off take a look at the coil connections and make sure there is no rust. other things to do. top off break fluid with motor running check transmission fluid and power stearing fluid. I dont remember and i know i haven't done this in a long time! but dont our cars have a place for some grease to be injected? maybe im off mark with that one.. if you have questions dont be afraid to ask. we are here to help. Turbo231
I generally don't change the fuel pump as "maintenance"....are you even sure the pump wasn't changed just a few years ago?
mfewtrail
Just wondering... is there anything I need to know before I start doing this? Change the plugs when the engine is cool/cold.
EviLette
fuel filter... LOL thats what I meant! I was in a hurry and said the wrong thing. Changing the FILTER, not the pump lol. I wouldn't attempt that one on my own. And I knew about doing the plugs on a cold motor... do it on a warm/hot one and you risk cracking the heads IIRC. Or damaging a valve or something, I don't rightly remember. I just know its BAD. Have a plug socket to do this. Oh, and the fuel pump has been changed several times in the last few years, Turbo321. I've put four or five on the car in the years I've owned it... this one has held up longer than any of the others. Like I said, meant FILTER not PUMP.
