Upgrade With Higher Amp Alternator?

Recommended Posts

I just bought a new alternator that will be approximately 180-200 Amps. Will I need to upgrade my alt cable with the new higher amp alt? If so, how much bigger should I go?

Thanks

1/0 would be ideal for 200amp and higher...

Ok, if it is a 180 amp, what should I run then? Sorry I don't know the exact amperage of it yet, I will be getting it tomorrow.

Thanks

Great, so should I run it from the alt to the remote terminal? Someone on TGPforums recommended doing that to supplement the factory wire (so I will have both cables connected).

It wouldn't hurt. Although 1 guage wire is plenty to do it on it's own IMO.
