Ok I'm wondering what’s going on here and how to fix it. When I first got my car (1996 Olds Cutlas 3100 v6 4t60-E. It shifted hard into 2ed Unless you were at WOT. Then it shifted fine. And going about 70-75 if I would put the pedal to the floor it wouldn’t shift down and go. it would Go But never a shift Down or nothing. At 65 I could rang 2,000 rpm- 4,500 with out ever having it kick down. I'm pretty sure there was Not TCC lock up. It over heated on me 2 times.

Then about 4 or 5 days ago I Heard a Weird sound. Kind of a grinding clunk. My friends heard it too. Then I'm Pretty sure my TCC started locking up at like 25mph and up again. Witch it used to with the previous owner then it just stopped looking up at all. The Transmission fluid is Burnt and black. Now when I'm going about 65 and I punch it. It goes up about 1,000 rpm then I get a shift down and go. (like normal)

So my question is. How do I make it work right? If I change the Fluid would it help? Anyway I could flush it myself? Is there a way I could in gage it on the highway so it wont over heat.

When it over heats. All of the sudden in gear it the rpm will raise and soon enough it will notice it. Then it’s not pulling at all. I look in my rear view and I can see white smoke. Not much But some. I pull over wait about 25-30 minutes it’s Fine. Goes in gear nice and solid and Drives fine. It has only happened 2 times. And it was both at highway speed one.

Once after 100 mile drive. Started it got on the highways and went. 2ed time. Started it got on the highway for about 5 miles Drove around town for an hour then Got on the highway again 24 miles later it over heated. It went in gear about 30 minutes later I drove 2 miles at 25 mph Went shopping for an hour. Then dove a mile at about 25. Went ate and Drove the 20 miles to a friends house and it was fine. Then about 2 hours later drove the other ten miles and still it was fine.

Replacing the trans is what you are left with now... Go ahead and flush it and it will just fail even quicker... Driving hard is fun, but if you cant do the maintenance work on them, buy a damn bicycle and leave the driving of W's to people who can use common sense and take care of them.

Being and idiot and trashing your trans is FTMFL

No use dragging this thread out when common sense and a new trans is what will fix your issue...so

I hope your not talking to me... I never said anything about the TCC... I simply said you abused and overheated a trans with burnt and black fluid that you ingnored flushing before you had problems... Game over, go get a good trans now. Your just wasting your time and effort on the current one

Gain some common sense on driving a car hard properly and maintaining your car, then you wont have to worry about catching shit from us

To the point: Your trans is on the way out...You might try changing the fluid and filter, but not flushing it, and running a can of Lucas in it to get a few more miles, but be looking for a good trans in the meantime for your friend to install for $200 in the meantime.

better and better shifting and such??? That because the clutches are wearing so quick right now and exposing fresh clutch material... Trust me, that trans is about to go out..

transmissons do weird shit when the fluid is garbage and the internals are eathing themselves alive.. Chryslers are notorious to act completely normal after they have slipped and make some horrific noises for a while. And shortly after, they finally give up the ghost..

Either way, start findin a good trans and someone to help you put it in unless you know you can do it yourself...

::::I think this thread has run its course::::

At this point you could try dropping the pan and changing the fluid and filter. What do you have to lose other than about $25. The filter acts as an oil pickup as well. You'll also be able to see if there's anything abnormal at the bottom of the pan. DON'T DO A FLUSH. Dropping the pan only gets 1/2-2/3 fluid out of there. I bought my old '90 CS with 90k and original trans fluid. It was shitty and dark brown (not black though) I did several pan drops every 15-20k miles and the trans started to act better and it gave me another 110,000 miles of service. My sister's '02 GP with the 4T65e with 65k miles started slipping at the 1-2 shift, which went away after the SECOND pan drop (~90k). Use Dex-3 fluid and hope for the best. Your fluid probably got beaten down worse from being driven all the time without a working TCC.
