EviLette
So some of you might remember several weeks back I had motor mounts changed out on my car. One motor mount (The HUGE one), a tranny mount, and both my torque struts. Did the dogbones myself because I know how. >.> Anyways.... it seems I have a bad motor mount again. The car now, though, instead of making a huge clunk and jerk from everything moving, makes a bit of a "clink" sound when you engage the tranny. Also, right after you start to accelerate, you can hear the same clink-type sound (sounds to be the same origin as the other noise) like it moves, then becomes stable on something under pressure. I'm going to jack it up this weekend and see WTF is going on, I'm seriously concerned at this point. When I was in KC, they said it looked like my motor was angled to the side. I'll get some pics posted up here about that, so you can see this. I can kind of see it too.. Anyhow... we really need a smiley around here of banging your head on a brick wall. Repeatedly. Hairdo12
Why replace only three of the four mounts? Should have done the other lower mount too.

"One motor mount (The HUGE one), a tranny mount, and both my torque struts." I'd be checking your subframe bushings...

rockfangd
I agree i would definately start checking the subframe, if not that the lower control arm and balljoint.
EviLette
I agree i would definately start checking the subframe, if not that the lower control arm and balljoint. drat. now you've got me wishing it was just a defective motor mount. I'll get it jacked up on Sunday and see what I can find out. It can't be the ball joints, they have less than 2k on them.
19Cutlass94
I just started to have this problem. Mine happens when Im going very slow to either a stop or just starting to go. It sounds like mines coming from the lower motor mount, but Im not sure, I havent looked at yet. I probably should before somethings happens... EviLette
well i have yet to see a bad new mount but then i wouldnt be surprised I could've done it myself. The more I think about it, I wouldn't be suprised. Then again... Ugh. At least I can admit to wondering... The problem was fixed right after the mounts were put in. It was a HUGE difference. I had to fix the heater hose.. replace it... and I moved the motor forward to do so (i.e. rocked it forward.) I'm wondering if I couldn't have over-stressed something and messed up something brand new that way. ...go ahead and laugh. That's just all I can think of, unless there's another mount down there that I don't know about.
rockfangd
lol. This may sound stupid but check to make sure they didnt leave anything loose also. loose nuts will cause problems
EviLette
lol. This may sound stupid but check to make sure they didnt leave anything loose also. loose nuts will cause problems Yeah, I'm taking it over to my dad's today... I'm gonna set it up on some jackstands and get under it with a creeper and a flashlight and see if I can figure ANYTHING out at all. Do you think its possible I screwed up one of the motor mounts rolling the motor forward? That fear has stopped me from putting plugs/wires on the damn car... I'd be happy if it was just a loose bolt.. it wouldn't be the first time.
rockfangd
i doubt you broke a mount unless you hooked the engine up to a rope and a wall and backed up to pull the motor forward lol. thats how i do it but i have never broken a mount

I used a tow strap, the type with a winch on it (500 lb limit) and hooked it to the motor to roll it forward, wrapped it around the front of the frame inside the front bumper. It worked to move the motor. On the tranny mount, the rear nut of the two (two all-threaded pieces of metal that i refer to as BOLTS that go through the mount)... wasn't seated flush with the transmission lip that it sits on.. whatever.. my terminoligy is lame.. scream at me, my father just did. Anyways... I thought, okay, hey, the bolts loose... but i tried to tighten it, it was turning but not moving on the threads. So I tried to back it off, thinking maybe it was stripped out somewhere (somehow)... that didn't work either. So I grabbed the wrench, put my finger on top of the threaded chunk of metal that I refer to as the BOLT that runs through (down into the mount) and it was turning as I turned the nut itself. Apparently the bolt itself is broken off somewhere inside of the mount. I'm fairly certain I did that when I was working on the heater hose... but the problem didn't start immediatly after doing that, took a few days. Either way, looks like I'm going to have to suck it up to pay labor on replacing that damn mount AGAIN. My fault, my fuckup. At least I know what I did wrong. ... maybe this is why women shouldn't be working on cars? fuck. I'm so pissed at myself right now.

It happens to the best of us...It likely took a day or two to break loose. Don't let it dscourage you though.

It didn't make sense to me that it would be safe to move the motor forward if the mounts are designed to keep it from moving. Guess I just went too far forward. I'm thinking I'll pay someone to put plugs and wires on the bitch now.
rockfangd
that seems to be your problem. shit happens. Thats the the solid mounts are not as flexible as the hydraulic, i think anyways. It must have broken the rear stud from the top of the tranny mount. As much as i would hate to say this check the motor mount also.
