Cam'ron
I am thinking of making the swap to synthetic at my next oil change (maybe Mobil 1 again or even Royal purple), question is anyone else with the L67 or L36 i guess get any extra engine noise after that swap? On my 03 with the 3400, when i swapped to Mobil 1 my top end noise became almost unbearable and i swapped it out after merely 2000 km of driving. 99RegalGS
I run 0w-40 in my Regal and it's quiet. Don't worry, as long as you use a quality oil filter your'e safe from lifter tick..
Cam'ron
FRAM all the way.... like hell hahaha but what does the filter matter as far as tick?
99RegalGS
Some cheap filters, like the cheapest orange Fram filters, are known to restrict oil flow. And thus creating lifter ticking.
Cam'ron
what are your recommendations for hi-flo, if you will, oil filters?

RobertISaar
stock... hmm whod'a thought I've run ACD PF52 on everything since I got my first W-body, after the second oil change. the ACDs are fine, btu WIX and pureolater are excellent choices too. i run wix whenever possible, but you cant always get ahold of them up here, but if not wix ACDelco PF52. any oil filter guide will show a different one(for the 3100 anyways) but the 52 is bigger and will work perfectly(cost the same most of the time too). found this out after i did an oil change on my dads 96 tahoe 350 and back to back on the monte, started thinking, wow this looks familiar, so i grabbed the old one tried to thread it on, and it did. that was the last time i used the tiny ass stock one. I use Amsoil Series 2000 Synthetic 0W-30 with an Amsoil filter, and my 3100 is pretty quiet.
MonteCarloDude
i am running a napa gold filter, and max life synthetic blend 10W-30 . the top end noise seems a little better but its still bad.
19Cutlass94
Its not the lifters that are making that noise... This subject has been covered by GM in a TSB and is the result of the wrist pin and the piston having the maximum/minimum clearance. Only way to fix this is to get new wrist pins/pistons.... If your engines makes that noise even when warm, then you have a more serious problem that needs to be addressed.
AWeb80
I run the Valvoline Max life 5-30 w/ a wix filter in the honda and amd 10-30 in the GP.....it's quiet.
rockfangd
i still run pennzoil platinum 5w30 and fram high mileage filter. when i first looked at buying my cutlass 5 years ago it made the ticking when cold but it only lasted like a minute. 5 years later and it still runs flawless. . i dont even notice anymore lol.
