Switching coolant... Opinions???

So.. when I bought my TGP, someone had mixed in some orange Dexcool with the green stuff, so I brought it into my local dealership and had a coolant flush done. The mechanic said it really should be switched to the orange stuff since some was in there already. At that point I switched to the orange stuff.

Fast forward to now- I tore down the TGP and did intake gaskets and lots of misc stuff, and in the process of doing that, the car is empty of coolant.

The question is: If I flushed out my cooling system a few times with just water, could I switch back to the green stuff safely? What do you guys think about this?

If I don't go to the green stuff, I may just go to a distilled water/Water Wetter mix, like I run in the cooling systems of my race bikes..

Any input is appreciated

I *WHOLEHEARTEDLY* endorse using the coolant the system was designed around.

This means conventional green stuff in your case, and it should be flushed every 2 years (regardless of mileage) to stave off corrosion and keep the water pump etc properly lubricated.

I doubt the Dexcool did any damage since it was only in for a couple of years, so just flush it all out and go back to green.

Just remember............green/conventional in a Dexcool system, and/or a mix of green and Dexcool in ANY system are what you REALLY don't want. Having the silicates either chew stuff up, or precipitate COMPLETELY out of solution are the big no-no's..........
