So it’s that time of the year. It’s nice out. I have a 12x12 patio of concrete. My grand prix has been sitting for to damn long. I'm going to pull the transmission. And put the other in. I have NEVER done something like this befor. I'm tired of depending on other people. Ill jack my wheels up and take them both off.. Now I'm lost. Someone tell me this

-What tools do I need?

-How many friends?

-how many beers

-how many days

-And how long am I going to have to go to church for god to forgive me of what I'm going to say while I'm doing this.

Or just pay a friend of mine that works at a tranny shop to swap them for 200 bucks. That my dad said he would give me lol.

I am not going to lie, if you dont do it the $200 way, your an idiot. Its not fun to swap trannys at all. If you are that scard that your friend wont do that good a job, watch him. Its your car, not his and you can watch as long as you want. He might work longer, but it will be done right. Swapping motors or trannys on these cars is not fun, especially if you dont have a lift.

Just let him do it, just my word of advice.

I'd also go with the $200 route. Record time for this is something like 8 hours, and I guarantee it will take your buddy longer than that. Definitely worth the money and saving you the aggravation and busted knuckles/fingers.

PAY SOMEONE!

Some things are just easier to let a professional do it. I love to do things myself too, but I still love my mechanic for doing things that I just don't have a setup to do or the knowledge to do.

Honestly, I wouldnt bother trying to tackle that job, especially if someone was only gonna charge me two hundred bucks to do it. Dropping a trans is a lot of work. I have done it and I had no beer. It took me three days and a hayes manual.

It took me 20 hours to do the tranny and the STs in the front of my grand prix with no help, no lift, and no beer. lol. the only thing i had goin for me is i had air tools. made it a lot easier. And this was a manual tranny, which is easier than its automatic counterpart. After this experience i would gladly pay someone 200 bucks to swap a tranny.

Yeah but a standard is what.. 50 lbs lighter... Automatics are soo heavy.. one of the reasons why I wouldnt do one bymyself again.

bah, do it yourself... you can never really know how much fun it is to change a motor or tranny without a lift... you learn to be very creative, I have done it a few times with my friends acura and eclipse in the past...

really though... just pay someone, for only $200 it's too much work and hell to do it yourself... :)
