SmoothSteve3
I know its fine to put a breather filter on the front head, but what about the one on the rear head? Would it be acceptable to put a breather filter in place of the hose that runs from the head to the upper intake (assuming I plug the upper intake of course) 3.1 1990 Lumina...FYI
Addicted To Boost
No.. the one on your rear valve cover would be a PCV and you don't want to disconnect that.
1990lumina
It would work, but I definately wouldn't do it. You'll have combustion gases and other shit that the PCV would normally redirect into the intake to be burned instead be vented externaly into the engine bay. SmoothSteve3
Gotcha. So why do so many people do it on the front head? Doesn't it serve the same purpose as the rear head?
Addicted To Boost
The one on the rear valve cover is used as a PCV. The one on the front isn't, its just a vent.
z34Phoenix
The two vents work in pairs... the front is the air source and the rear is the pcv side that sees engine vac... using a breather will throw off your idle fueling... in stock form the pcv is getting air mainly thru the front vent cover. this air entering the system was accounted for by the MAF sensor... if using a breather you now are injesting unmeterd hair. the offset prob wont be drastic enough to cause any issues though... GutlessSupreme
His car doesn't have MAF. But that said, you still don't want to do it. Why would you want to anyway? Unless you enjoy removing your intake plenum frequently.
