MonteCarloChick
I have a pretty loud rhythmic squeaking as I roll out of a stop or slow to a stop. The squeaking goes away 90% of the time when the brakes are applied. Any ideas?
ManicMechanic
Get rid of the mouse. Sounds like brakes to me.
MonteCarloChick
I just did all of the brakes in the fall (not with crap)

ManicMechanic
Perhaps you didn't install the anti-squeak shims?
MonteCarloChick
bah.. I was hoping it wasn't the brakes. I'll look when it's not raining out.
1990lumina
They probably aren'y worn out - just nee some anti squal compund applied to the back of the pads or something.
Brian P
that and check that the wear sensors aren't bent out of whack and touching the rotor. They should only touch when the pads are close to gone.
Fleeingpepper
I have this exact problem! But I know my brakes are good too. It's really embarrassing.
Cam'ron
according to some i traded my 03 monte off because of this.... sounds alot like the noise i had on my 03 is it happening with really light brake pressure nichole? and goes away when you're actually trying to stop the car ? the brakes on my 03 were new as well, but i did have some weird~ish wear marks on my rotors. Yep It's been raining and about 40* outside so I have been able to get any lube back there. It is embarrassing
Cam'ron
no kidding i had the brakes done on my old 03 and within a couple months they were squealing, wasn't happy with them at all, i think that had i not traded the car off for the 04 i would have been replacing the brakes all over again. with the rust on the rotors and the squealing i don't think i would have tried to make sure they were shimmed properly and lubed i would have just done another 4 wheel brake job
MonteCarloChick
The funny thing is, is that I got the more expensive Bendix brakes all around instead of the Advance Auto cheapos and these make a horrible squealing sound
Cam'ron
same here, ceramic pads and higher than the bottom rotors on mine, i forget the brands but that damn brake job cost me $600 in parts alone... at least i got the mechanic's my uncle labor discount
Hairdo12
Valuecraft FTW - over 4 years of service on the fronts with no problems at all.
Brian P
If the pads are okay, you may just need to apply an anti-squeal coating on the back of the pads (AKA brake grease) also anywhere the pads touch the caliper or bracket. Might be a good time to clean and grease up the slider pins along with checking any anti-rattle clips for damage.
