88red4cyl
This is on the 99 LTZ. I noticed a bit of exhaust fumes at a light this evening, so when I got home I kinda checked it out. The exhaust is really light colored and smells a little bit like sulfur.. Could a cat going bad be the cause of this? The car isn't throwing any SES codes, so I thought I would ask you all. Thanks! 88red4cyl
Or, Run No Cat If You Can. We don't have emission testing here, so I guess I could.. What is involved with removing the cat? I would also assume I would have to take it somewhere to have some pipe welded in also?? Does is sound like the cat could be causing the smoke though? Just kinda worried me... Hal H
generally, the sulfur odors inidicate a rich operating condition. If it continues it could overheat the cat, and make cause the "honeycomb" ceramic element to break up, which can clog the exhaust downstream (bends, or if you have resonators)
jdcutty
step 1: remove cat with sawzall step 2: weld in straight pipe step 3: take cat to scrap yard step 4: laugh all the way home with your new found wealth
