overheating blaupunkt headunit

Well the blaupunkt in the z34 seems to be ultra finicky. I'm not sure if its under warranty or w/e because it came with the ride. Listening to it below conservation level is fine, but it overheats and goes into protect mode at any sustained decent output or loud peaks. So anyway, I have an orion cobalt 100.2 amp that would probably fit nicely under the passenger seat - I was considering just hooking that up to infinity reference coaxials in the rear and dash. Am I playing with fire (literally) here, or should the deck be fine without having to use its own internal amplifier? I was hoping it would be fine just acting as a source/preamp.

If I were to do this, are there any empty places in the fusebox to add a new circuit? It wouldn't draw all that much current, maybe 8-10 amperes at most.

Really, I'd just look into getting a new HU, Blaupunkt is not that great.

But, to answer your question, the deck will run cooler if you just use the RCA outputs.

Just no extra $$$ to buy - I probably will upgrade in the future, I just didn't plan on this now after cutting the check for the car and title and plates. Do you know if there's anywhere to stick an add-a-fuse thingy to a spare circuit in the z34?

If your only drawing 8-10 amps, tapping into the ignition harness will be fine. Just use an inline fuseholder. The factory ignition wires are way overkill for what is actually used in these vehicles.

one thing I feel is worth mentioning, if your car has the optional Bose equipment in it (noted by the presence of door speakers and a "Delco Bose" badge on them the 1ohm speakers could be driving it into protection mode.

Yeah, I was almost wondering if these infinity reference are a little less than 4 ohm. Its entirely possible. The orion can handle low loads but I'm actually going to series wire the amp to cut down on the draw if people get happy with the volume control.
