Cam'ron Posted May 5, 2008 Report Posted May 5, 2008 Ok i finally got it decently on film. this noise that im getting from my brakes, or possibly the rims, has got to go but i dont know if i should be headed to a brake shop or a tire shop. History - since i bought the 17" diamond cut rims and tires i have had occasional noise coming from them under low speed braking conditions, it has now gotten progressively worse and i am ready to flip... the problem/noise only occurs when these are on the car, my other stock 16" rims do not make any noise or let the brakes make any noise whichever the case may be. here are pics of each rotor showing zero weird wear patterns hell even the fronts still have the marking from when they were new. left rear right rear left front right front ^ as far as those rotors go i am incredibly not impressed with the rust given the fact they are only 5 months old but the stopping power is great and i can attribute the rust to driving her in the winter. the vids 1st is rolling forwards and no brakes, no noise at all... FWIW there is no noise in reverse either 2nd is forwards with brakes, you can really hear it towards the end of the video What the hell could be causing this? remedies i have tried, i actually had the wheels rebalanced and no change, i have pulled the center caps as mentioned in a previous thread to no avail and i have swapped back and forth between the winter rims and these and there is no noise other than the annoying brake squeal i have right now on the winter rims. Both the brake squeal and the squeaking go away under hard braking... HELP!!!!! im loosing my mind here
1990lumina Posted May 6, 2008 Report Posted May 6, 2008 I don't hear any squealing at all - is that groaning/low pitched creaking sound what you are talking about??
Cam'ron Posted May 7, 2008 Author Report Posted May 7, 2008 nother thought... with the spacers i dont have alot of stud for my lugs to grab onto... probable cause? just tossing ideas around, i would rather find the problem out the easy way instead of a couple hours labor at a mechanic diagnosing it...
BXX Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 nother thought... with the spacers i dont have alot of stud for my lugs to grab onto... probable cause? just tossing ideas around, i would rather find the problem out the easy way instead of a couple hours labor at a mechanic diagnosing it... If you only have a couple threads catching, then get the spacers off NOW before a wheel comes off... Your prolly about to break studs...
Cam'ron Posted May 7, 2008 Author Report Posted May 7, 2008 well its more than a couple but i have long lugs on there and i know that the stud is probably no more than 1/3 the way in...
Hairdo12 Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 Also, check out the left front brake. I don't see it lasting too long with the way it looks. Check the slider pins and inspect the pad and it might already have uneven wear.
Cam'ron Posted May 7, 2008 Author Report Posted May 7, 2008 Yeah i just sent the pics to my uncle slash mechanic to get his opinion on the brakes themselves... thats 2 people that threw a flag for the condition of the front brakes.
Cam'ron Posted May 12, 2008 Author Report Posted May 12, 2008 uhh well i sold the car... since this is a very odd issue that no one could really offer help any with, this can get locked or deleted.
digitaloutsider Posted May 12, 2008 Report Posted May 12, 2008 He didn't trade a car to fix the problem, he traded the car to get a better car. Per OP's wishes, thread is locked.
