Pioneer AVIC-Z2?

I've been drooling over this unit for a long time and I've been wondering if anyone has had any thoughts or experience with this unit. I found a place that sells it new for $829 instead of the MSRP of like $2,999.Lookie here:

http://www.86photovideo.com/products.asp?product_id=18191 WARNING: DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS MERCHANT. CERTIFIED SCAM.

I'm about 1/3 of the way to buying it, about 3/11ths away from having it installed. I have about $300 saved.

Along with the unit I need the steering wheel adapter to keep my controls and the OnStar thingy to retain the OnStar stuff including the door chimes.

link? my buddy has been wanting one for sometime now.

BTW

However, la crosse means masturbation or swindling in Québecois slang, so it is sold as the Buick Allure in Canada.

Holy crap...

That thing retail is worth more than my whole car.

I really don't see why anyone would want to buy one of those unless they had a luxury car. I remember that one guy here who had his window smashed open and nice big LCD head unit stolen. Oops?

if its worth it to you, then get it. however ivd used it several times and the interface is painfully slow from all the stuff they put into it. after using it and the d3, i wouldnt waste the extra money on it

Here's one, and there are many more to be found on ebay.

The LaCrosse is considered a luxury car and I think it's design would fit my dash well.

What is this d3 your talking about? Is it by Pioneer? I'm open to suggestions about these units as I know nothing about them. I really would like to have a 7' screen and navigation, everything else is filler.

You won't get the Z2 at that price. That vendor is a scam.

Take a look.

Looks like NOBODY got what they ordered.

You can get a Z1 on eBay for $730 shipped and upgrade its hard drive with disk images floating around the web which will turn it into a Z2. The difference between Z1, Z2, and Z3 is only software, the hardware is identical.

I'm tempted to buy a Z1 just because the potential hackability of it sounds interesting. It runs Windows CE 4.2 which is very similar to Windows Mobile 2003. So far the tools for extracting/dumping the ROM contents of WM2003 works on the upgrade images I've downloaded for the Z2. I've even managed to extract the registry. It has the potential to be an even more badass deck than it is, if only more geeky people liked to play with them. If what I've said doesn't make sense, you're not geeky enough. ;)

Kenwood decks look nice, but it's kind of annoying how their UI looks so cheesy like a computer from 1990.

Pioneer's AVIC-F900BT and AVIC-F700BT will be coming out soon. They're pretty badass for relatively reasonable prices. The screens are small, but it's 800x480 resolution (four times that of any other car stereo).

For features vs. price, I won't buy anything but Pioneer. Kenwood decks are alright, but I'd never buy an Alpine... IMO it's inexcusable to spend $150 on a deck and not have a midrange adjustment.

Well since this thread is a month old I'm not sure if you already made a decision but I have a D3 in my Impala and I love it. IMO, you can't beat it for the price.
