Tranny Hose Size? Need to know!

Okay here's the deal. There are two tranny hoses at the front of my car, just about dead center at the bottom, behind the radiator. I have no idea what they are for, I just know they are tranny hoses. When my motor went in about a year and a half ago, the guy that did it didn't bother to get new hoses (or tell me that I needed to) so I've just recently discovered this leak. He basically just snipped the rotted ends off and clamped the hoses back on.. so now they are leaking from both end.

The problem is that I can't pull one off to take it to the parts store to find out what size I need.

Anyone know? 3.1/4t60

So are we talking about the metal hoses that go into the transmission cooler on the side of the radiator? He just cut out the rotted metal sections and clamped in some rubber hose?

If thats the case you might want to look into getting all new replacement lines. That way you dont have to worry about them leaking again. They are usually about $20-25 per line and you would obviously need both if they are both like that.

Of course you could still go the cheap route and just buy the hose by the foot. I believe it is 5/16, could be 3/8. If you look on the hose itself there are usuall markings that tell you the size.

3/8 hose but some early cars are 5/16. Definetly probably maybe 3/8, and make sure you get the strongest hose they have, AND USE FUEL HOSE CLAMPS (not the worm type)

We were thinking 3/8 but Oreilly only had 1/2. I don't know about fuel lines, I requested temp safe hydraulic (pressure withstanding) hoses... No, it wasn't metal tubing.

There are metal tube ends coming out (about an inch of each with a bit of a flange at the end that you place the clamp over the rubber hose, behind the flange) so they are designed for rubber hoses... he just snipped off the rotted ends of the rubber hoses and put them back on, so now they are too short.

Unfortunately, I can't get the size numbers off them. They are a BITCH to get to because of the way they were clamped on (the clamp screws, not the squeeze type but the actual one where you use a socket/screwdriver to tighten the clamp) are in an awful place to get to.. its going to take me at least an hour to get them off... while the car was on the lift I was looking and couldn't see anywhere on them marked for size. Just my luck, lol.

I checked the length of hose from oreilly that they cut for me, but it looked to be a tad small (I.E. the hose wouldn't fit over the metal ends.) I'll call around and see if any of the local shops here know. Oreilly recommended me to call a high performance shop for the hoses. :willynilly:

btw... I use adjustable clamps (metal band with screw to adjust) for everything requiring clamps. I'm good like that. :D

Why Not The Worm Type Master P? You Talking About Using The Type You Squeeze Together With A Pliers or something?

It's the clamps that are tightened with a screw but are smooth. The worm type clamps shred up the small diameter hoses especially over time. I think Evilette's described them.
