I can take a starter form a 3.1 or 3x00 ?? or I must take a 3.4DOHC stater ..?!

Thanks

use the starter from a newer 3100 or 3400. Like from a 2004 Impala LS.

so tinny ! lol

It has enough power to start a 3.4DOHC ?

Yes, Infact 1997 3.4Dohcs came with this starter. It also has a cooler sound.

does it just click and not start? mine does that, but always eventually starts, sometimes it just clicks and clicks for a while

dead spot in the starter, yeah. Can use 3100/3400 starters or even 3.1 starters. There's actually one other type of 3x00 that's SMALL it looks like two D-cell batteries  LOLLL

thatd be 3800....mine is so tiny and best of all sounds great. might be smaller than the one in the pic. It doesnt have that horrifically primitve cavalier or old ford starter sound

This is the wrong forum for that type of discussion.

Is it bad that I like that sound? I could pick out a W-body (or 60*V6) anywhere.

And I can pick out a Ford starter anywhere

The smaller starters are permenant magnet starters while the larger ones are field coil type starters. Permenent magnet ones draw less amps from the battery and are a lot more efficent, and lighter. If my Lumina starter blew up I'd replace it with the smaller starter too.
