Drummer
My GPs anti lock light comes on over 20 mph, i hooked up a tool that i got from auto zone, and the engine diagnostics works but the ABS doesn't for some reason i don't know. If the anti lock light comes on after 20 mph what could that possibly be?
Regal_GS_1989
Unless you have PowerMaster III, then I would say a bad wheel speed sensor. Pretty common actually. You can fix it, or you could just leave it as it is and have regular brakes.

If the anti lock light comes on after 20 mph what could that possibly be? '92 Lumina Euro 3.4. ABS light comes on at or below 20 mph. Especially when turning right. Right front ABS harness had broken wires right at the connector on the sensor. Left turn--and sometimes going straight--the ends of the broken wires touched; and the ABS was happy. Right turn, the wires separated and the light came on. New 2-wire pigtail harness from Delco = $24. Includes metal terminals, plastic connector body, and about a foot of 16-gauge wire. If I could have found proper metal terminals I could have made a harness using bulk wire and the existing plastic connector body for about $3, but I couldn't find exact replacement terminals. The problem is that the 2-wire harness routes from the sensor, through a plastic clip, then to a metal clip on the wheel well, and then through a molded-in rubber grommet in the wheel well. I had to cut the existing harness off shorter and shorter until I was only a couple of inches from the grommet on the wheel side of the wheel well trying to get to nice copper-colored wire instead of corroded looking icky wire. One of the two wires cleaned up at that point--and I just had to bite the bullet and solder the other to icky wire, 'cause I wasn't in the mood to chop the harness all the way back to the engine compartment. So far, so good.
MonteCarloChick
Only dealers can scan ABS codes. And just leave it unless you like ABS... lol
Schurkey
Only dealers can scan ABS codes. And just leave it unless you like ABS... lol I can scan ABS codes...I'm not a dealer. Yes, I prefer ABS. But then, it snowed here last night.
MonteCarloChick
Well if you have an ABS scanner.. then yes. But most scan tools cannot scan ABS.
Schurkey
But most scan tools cannot scan ABS. "Most" scan tools must be cheap, consumer-grade J-U-N-K. Why buy consumer-grade junk when you can get (used) professional-grade equipment on eBay? If it's the difference between "it works" and "it won't scan that..." pro-grade stuff is worth some extra coin.
MonteCarloChick
I could care less about ABS. Mine hasn't worked for years and I prefer it that way. And no, most scanners are not junk. They just don't scan ABS.
PCGUY112887
Either my wheel speed sensor is going out, or I have a bad ABS wire in the back. Regardless, when it started to go out... it was dangerous. I would be driving and hit the brakes and all of a sudden it thought I was sliding and would make the ABS go crazy... so I could bairly stop! It scared me shitless countless times, pull up to a stoplight with lots of traffic in front of me and ABS goes nuts and I can bairly stop in time. I pulled my fuse to ensure it didn't come on. Where can I get a new replacement ABS wire?
93CutlassSupreme
A stealership if it is still stocked, or try gmpartsdirect.com.
Schurkey
Where can I get a new replacement ABS wire? New 2-wire pigtail harness from Delco = $24. This assumes you need the same unit I did. Any A-C Delco distributor can get 'em.
PCGUY112887
Any part numbers? I went to a junkyard today to grab one of these and they had all of their freaking cars on the ground with no tires in the mud, so I couldn't get to the sensor to unplug it from under the car
PCGUY112887
Bump for a part number... went to the dealership today and they wanted $100 + tax for the wire.
xtremerevolution
Ha. I've had it come on and off constantly, but my ABS still works, lol. The light usually pops on when I'm hitting WOT.
Schurkey
Any part numbers? Well, it took way longer than I figured to find the empty plastic bag that my pigtail came in. However, I did locate it--I used A-C Delco P/N PT768 which is also GM P/N 12126499 "Connector". This is for use on the front of my '92 Lumina. No doubt it's the same for other models; and for other years. As I said--Costs ~$24, should cost $5.
PCGUY112887
The front? I am looking for one for the rear... the harness is about 3 feet long.
Schurkey
The front? I am looking for one for the rear... the harness is about 3 feet long. Does it use the same plastic connector body where it plugs into the sensor? A "pigtail" is intended to be spliced into the existing harness; replacing the damaged end. You want a complete harness; no wonder it's way more expensive. I "should" have bought a complete harness; one of the two wires was corroded about 10" up; the other one got cut and spliced at 10", like the other one--but it wasn't "clean" wire at that point--that's just as far back as I was willing to go. PCGUY112887
The GM manual says that they can not be repaired or ever spliced into, the harness is just 2 wires about 3 feet long with 2 prong plugs on each end. I think grabbing one from the junkyard would be easier/cheaper... but the last yard I went to had all of the cars on the ground with no tires so it was impossible to unplug the 1 side of the wire from under the body!
