CSI_MuNkY
If the tires on the front and back were different sizes, how would this effect the ABS? Right now I have 225/60s on the front and 255/50s on the rear and haven't noticed anything, but I haven't had to brake hard or brake in the rain. The reason I ask is because I'm starting to love how much that extra 30mm of tire changes the handling, so when I get new tires I am thinking about 255/50s for the rear and 245/50s for the front. This combination of sidewall is the closest I can get to matching the over all size of the tire while still getting the added width in the rear... GOT2B GM
as long as the overall circumference is close, its all good.
CSI_MuNkY
225/60; circumference - 83.62 in, Sidewall Height - 5.31 in 245/50 circumference - 80.55 in, Sidewall Height - 4.82 in 255/50 circumference - 81.77 in, Sidewall Height - 5.01 in The overall speed difference between the 245 and the 255 is only 1.526% The overall speed difference between the 225 and the 255 is 2.265% The overall speed difference between the 225 and the 245 is 3.826% Jamie
jman093
Differences like 2 and 3 percent are not going to make a difference at all. If you had tires that were mismatched enough to cause a problem it would throw the ABS light as soon as you started moving (or at least took a turn). Think of how much difference there is in the speed of all the wheels while turning sharply. It'd be a lot more than 2 or 3 percent. Cars this old don't have Steering Angle Sensors or anything so the ABS module is going to have to see a big difference in wheel speed before it thinks anything is wrong. CSI_MuNkY
Kool! Good to know! I guess that explains why I hear the ABS kick in on occasion when I an braking around a corner. Learn something new every day! Thanks! Jamie
