unclehotte Posted April 21, 2008 Report Posted April 21, 2008 Hello. Starter is spinning, but not the engine. It takes 2-3 tries to get the car running. So I assume its time for a new starter. The question is, can I do it myself? Its a 93 Buick Regal 3.1 can I JUST remove the screw which hold it in place and pull it out? Or is there more to it? The quick glance I did ( from above the engine) it looks to me that there is already the oil filter in the way? What else might cause trouble? Thanks for any help. Quote
rockfangd Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 ??? It should be pretty straight forward. Disconnect battery, disconnect 2 wires, remove 2 bolts, slide down and out, installation is reverse of removal, just dont forget the shims Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 I had to remove the oil filter just to make it that much easier. But yeah you have two wires on the starter itself, 8mm and a 13mm I believe and two 15mm bolts to get from down below. Quote
ManicMechanic Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 And if you want easier to go back in...Get a smaller starter from a late model (1999+_ 3X00 V6... Quote
unclehotte Posted April 22, 2008 Author Report Posted April 22, 2008 Thanks, guys. I only asked here for your help since in my book they talked about, disconnecting motor mounts and some other stuff i DID NOT want to get into. So I gonna try my luck this weekend! Quote
unclehotte Posted April 23, 2008 Author Report Posted April 23, 2008 Got the old starter out today, bought a new one. Will install it tomorrow, hope this works. Your infos were very accurate. Just didn't find any shims! Quote
meltboy1 Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 how long did it take you to do it, my moms regal needs one and it just looks like something I really don't wanna do... lol The shop said $90 to put it in so I might just have her bring it if it's that much of a pain in the ass Quote
Q-Ball Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 oh it easy. take litterly 20 min. I still need to put my 3x00 starter in though. Quote

unclehotte Posted April 27, 2008 Author Report Posted April 27, 2008 All done!!!! New starter (reman. from Mexico for $75) is in the car. Took me about 1h to get old one out and little less to install the new one. Pain in the ass was, the oilfilter had to get out and there was a sensor right next to the oilfilter which caused me some grief. After all, i am GLAD I saved $90!!! Quote
rockfangd Posted April 27, 2008 Report Posted April 27, 2008 very good. doesnt it feel good to save at least some money. especially right now Quote
