hmdznrcld
Hey has anyone tried getting out just the cv shaft that fits into the intermediate shaft? I bought a new right side shaft today and then noticed the cv shaft part still lodged in the intermediate tube. Does the intermediat shaft have to come off to get that stupid thing out? I am a newbie to these cars so I am unsure how to get it out. Thanks in advance hmdznrcld AKA RUNDLC
Crazy K
you mean the end of the cv shaft separated and is stuck in the tranny?
GutlessSupreme
Do you have a 5 speed or an auto?
hmdznrcld
Yes it separated and is stuck. Its a 5 speed.
ismellrealbad
You mean like this? Long prybar between the trans and the back of that. You can either pry or hit the prybar with a hammer as hard as possible to knock it out. It will not damage anything either way.
GutlessSupreme
edit: I'm gonna hold off on this one til he gets back to us. Is your situation like the above pic, or: ?
hmdznrcld
It's the second pic.... I thought I might have to pull the whole intermediate shaft
hmdznrcld
Hey Gutlass, what worked to get yours out? I was thinking of using a large pair of vise grips and beatin the crap out of them. hmdznrcld
ismellrealbad
i dont understand. what is the "situation" in the 2nd pic? the axle is completely out
hmdznrcld
Ismellrealbad, Are you saying that the intermediate shaft looks like the second pic? Do I have the wrong cv shaft? It looks to me that there would be a "female" side to the drive axle if it's supposed to look like that. I bought a new drive shaft from napa auto parts, it has a male spline on both ends hmdznrcld
Crazy K
it is very common to be given the wrong part. and that is what you have been given.
hmdznrcld
Thanks CrazyK, I'll just have to take that sucker back!! I went to their website, checked the receipt and SURE enough, they gave me the wrong one!! That ticks me off especially when I give them ALL the correct information! hmdznrcld aka RUNDLC

JAY! I might be right about the picture mixup thing
GutlessSupreme
Ok, that's what I thought was happening. I thought the same thing too at first, but that IS the intermediate shaft, not part of the axle. So stop trying to pull it out just what I figured though, they gave you the wrong part. Auto's have female on the driver's side, male on the passenger. The Getrags are vice versa. I swear, NOBODY has consistently given the same axle for the same part number for our Getrags. I had both NAPA and Autozone screw it up.. there were multiple part numbers, and I held in my hands two different axles under the same part number. I'm looking at the GP parts scans... http://s44.photobucket.com/albums/f14/platjblser/?action=view¤t=gp6.jpg The auto axles have a different shaft length for each side (obviously). They have a female tripot housing on the driver's side and a male on the passenger's side. The manual axles have the same shaft for each side, but it is not the same as either of the automatic shafts (at least part # wise). The female tripot housing is on the passenger side and the male is on the driver's side - these are the same parts as on the auto axles, the sides are just swapped. In a pinch, supposedly you can use the driver side auto axle in place of the passenger side manual axle, but it's supposed to be between 1/2"-1" shorter and isn't the best idea. Another solution is to buy a driver's side auto and two quick-boot kits, take apart the reman auto shaft (I know, I know..) and your manual shaft, then swap the shafts between them so it's the right length, then use the quick-boots to seal them back up. Expensive and aggravating, but an idea.

GutlessSupreme
Fit what, in place of his MT - R axle? and what does outer assm refer to? the axle less the inner tripot?
ManicMechanic
Fit what, in place of his MT - R axle? Yes, that's what interchanges, HOWEVER the manual has been known to be wrong. and what does outer assm refer to? the axle less the inner tripot? Without the jack-shaft, which is what they call the intermediate shaft.
hmdznrcld
So let me get this straight, cause I am soooo confused. Are we saying that there is not a replacement? First now Napa has to "find" my core!! Does anyone have a correct part number for this dang axle? where can i buy one? MY UPDATE: Rock Auto shows A-1 CARDONE Part # 601112 More Info {Reman CV Half-Shaft Assembly / Overall Length=20 3/8" Outboard Splines=33 Inboard Splines=35 Inboard Joint Type=Female} Front Left; w/ABS w/A.T. w/4 Spd.
