mdelorie
poking around my hood today, found a spark wire unplugged (or at least loose) off the DIC for cylinder 2. plugged it back in, and the car "seemed" smoother. Not that I had noticed a problem before. Would I have noticed (performance wise) if I was a cylinder short? Doesn't the ECM warn about that? if the spark isn't being delivered? Redfox340
No, the ECM does not directly check spark inside the cylinder. But, since you had a "dead" cylinder, the Oxygen sensor most likely picked up the unburned A/F mixture. That means the ECM could advance the timing or lean out the A/F mixture. I would take out and check all plugs for burns and perhaps replace your O2 since it could begin to foul out. Just a thought, glad you found such a thing! - Erik
Robby1870
It was prolly just loose, and I bet the spark was arcing between the coil and the wire. So, you still had 6 cylinders, just one was not performaning as well as it should. So, putting it back on tight, made all 6 burn properly, smoothing out your idle Robby
