CSI_MuNkY Posted April 11, 2008 Report Posted April 11, 2008 So I have to replace my rear struts already, I blew one up a couple weeks ago. I used Silicone adhesive to hold the threaded tube on the strut, just wondering if anyone has an idea of how I can get that tube off there and onto the new strut... The only ones I can find to replace them are anodized blue, I'd like to stay with the black ones. Yeah I know, I'm picky. I'm thinking about maybe soaking them in a solvent like acetone, but I don't know how well that will work its way into the tube. Jamie Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted April 12, 2008 Report Posted April 12, 2008 Silicone will pull apart somewhat easy. Just get something to pry up on the bottom of the sleeve. You wont hurt them. Quote
CSI_MuNkY Posted April 12, 2008 Author Report Posted April 12, 2008 A guy at work suggested I try using a heat gun to soften up the silicone, he even offered to let me borrow his heat gun. The thing is if I try that and it doesn't work then I'm in a bind because I have no where locally to get a new set of threaded sleeves. Jamie Quote
Mach 5 Posted April 12, 2008 Report Posted April 12, 2008 Oil filter wrench. If that don't work, drill 2 holes in the bottom section of the sleeve and find something to turn it using those holes. -Jarek Quote

CSI_MuNkY Posted April 13, 2008 Author Report Posted April 13, 2008 I figured when I wanted to adjust them they would just spin on the strut, I wasn't worried about them moving when I drive... Jamie Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted April 13, 2008 Report Posted April 13, 2008 Well when you adjust them theres suppose to be no weight on them, so you can just hold the sleeve with your hand and adjust the nut. Quote
CSI_MuNkY Posted April 13, 2008 Author Report Posted April 13, 2008 that is true... I was just following the instructions that Held provided... Jamie Quote
