19Cutlass94 Posted April 11, 2008 Report Posted April 11, 2008 like a quick shine for polished aluminum? Like a quick detailer like Mothers' showtime but for the wheels. I know for chrome you can use a few different things, but never knew if they worked good on polished aluminum as well. Thoughts? Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted April 11, 2008 Author Report Posted April 11, 2008 well the thing is, I know on chrome you can do such a thing without having to wash them or polish them. And it seems like on my wheels, I have to polish them everytime I clean the car and sometimes more often. I was just wondering if there was like a quick detailer of sorts that I could use ya know what I mean. Quote
Psych0matt Posted April 11, 2008 Report Posted April 11, 2008 waxing them might help, but I can't think of anything specifically like that. Then again, I've never had polished aluminum Quote
Euro Posted April 11, 2008 Report Posted April 11, 2008 I believe you can only wax polished aluminum if it's clear coated. I don't know of anything like a quick detailer. Quote

MonteCarloDude Posted April 11, 2008 Report Posted April 11, 2008 Ok kinda on same topic... how do u get rid of brake dust easy.? Scrubing sucks.. some wheel cleaners work ok, but its hard to beat a good scrubing. blue magic works good stays on for a bit too. x2. Quote
EviLette Posted April 11, 2008 Report Posted April 11, 2008 Ok kinda on same topic... how do u get rid of brake dust easy.? Scrubing sucks.. You don't. You either wash the car once a week and wipe down the wheels when you wash the car, then polish them after they dry... (I use mothers, works great... its the only reason I polished mine down lol..) If you haven't cleaned off all of the clearcoat on your wheels, any good wheel cleaner (other than acid) should HELP... but as far as getting brake dust off... good luck. It gets on, it sticks, it stains, it pits. I am in the process of doing 2000 grit wetsanding on my aluminum lips again because they got so marred from brake dust over the winter. >.< Quote

My old SVT Contour had baked on brake dust pits in the crevices of the spokes where they met the rim. This shit was BAKED on from the previous owner, not just some monthly accumlation...Go to a place that sells body supplies (we have Canadian Tire here...maybe autozone or something in the States) and get some rust remover. This is a gel in a little bottle. I used this with a tooth brush, and it cut right through it. Wear gloves though, because I didn't and my fingers were stained green for days. It's some powerful stuff, and it works. Beyond that, use Meguars hot rims in the clear purple spray bottle for light duty applications. It's acid based and will cut right through it. Quote
Euro Posted April 12, 2008 Report Posted April 12, 2008 once the brake dust is off your wheels, if they're clear coated WAX THEM. That will help repell it to some extent. Quote
5speedz34 Posted April 12, 2008 Report Posted April 12, 2008 Ya, I need to do that on one of the GP wheels. I drove it down to the metal backing, and I think molten metal fused itself to a wheel. Quote
MonteCarloChick Posted April 12, 2008 Report Posted April 12, 2008 I've never had brake dust issues Quote
